The Jibbies & Loond Show - Episode 021 - Prehistoric remnants and social disorder

Jibbies and Loond were both out in the field this time. Loond comes back with reports of one "one of the greatest show I have ever seen" while Jibbies keeps the fires stoked by describing another band as "on its way to being the biggest metal band in the world." Who could have inspired such ardor in our duo? Have a listen and find out! For your troubles you'll also get to hear about a big steaming turd of a record released by the reigning 'BMBITW,' metal and OWS, moshpit politics, and the seeming ascendence of right-wing elements in the scene. Don't worry though, no dried up hippy bs here. As always, nothing but the freshest, bestest, and heaviest tunes guide the way....down the left-hand path.

The Jibbies & Loond Show - Episode 019 - Black Tusk interview

The J&L hotline rang as we were getting this episode together and on the other end, calling on location from a very interesting day job, was James, drummer from Black Tusk. We had a great talk about all things BT which you can hear at the end of this episode. But first, J&L opine on recent offerengs from Rwake, Coliseum, Black Cobra, Tombs, and one band that Jibbies reckons has an album-of-the-year candidate on their hands. The duo then talk some Dez Fafara, in particular his political activism and decision to launch a Coal Chamber reunion. Tune in now, there's great metal ahead!

The Jibbies & Loond Show - Episode 017 - Keep Metal Panhandler Free!

In this episode, Jibbies and Loond get out into the field, visiting the always sonically spectacular Scout Bar in the southern Houston ‘burbs to take in DevilDriver and Skeletonwitch. A full-metal time is had by one and all, the only tiny downside being getting pan-handled by some chick for $1 on behalf of one of the local openers. Talk about harshing your buzz….I mean can’t you tell that we’re standing here having fun, rocking out? And what’s with the snarky comment when we say no? Hopefully this isn’t going to become a new cross-venue trend. Once J&L detail the show itself, they turn toward the future, pontificating on the ins-and-outs of Anthrax and Testament ‘co-headlining’ their upcoming tour and attempting to answer the question, “Is it really a Dead Horse reunion without Michael Haaga participating?”

[Ed. Note: Our interview with DevilDriver guitarist Jeff Kendrick, though not labelled as such, was Ep. 016, making this Ep. 017]

The Jibbies & Loond Show - Episode 013 - Nervecell interview

Our dynamic duo have a special treat for you this week, a full-length in depth interview wth Barney Ribeiro of Dubai's premiere death metal band Nervecell. The band released their second CD in Europe, 'Psychogenocide,'  in May and describe themselves (accurately) as likeable to fans of Morbid Angel, Death, and Testament. A US tour hasn't been mapped out quite yet, but Barney, a true metal fan as well as musician, is obviously ready to get down to it. Then again, as J&L note prior to the interview, a lot of far more established bands seem to make just one pass across the US and call it a tour these days. And much to J&L'sr chagrin the one-way trip more often than not cuts across the northern side of the continent instead of the southern. Your metal friends also settle the 'great/sucks' debate surrounding Mastodon's new single 'Black Tongue,' fondly recall Killswitch Engage shows gone past, and laugh at the still-occuring conflation of The Sword and Sword (80s Canadian greats).

Friday LinkFrogging - 7/22/11

So, the gang is in San Diego doing a bang-up job of covering SDCC. And I get to thinking, huh, I've been there, why not refresh myself with some of the scenery. There's Stone Temple Pilots and Rocket From The Crypt. There was Air Coryell-era NFL football. Beaches. Marinas. A House of Blues with the most f-d up floor plan ever. Great weather. Surely such a vibrant dynamic environment has produced some notable specimens of human female beauty. I mean, aside from Cameron Diaz. Well, probabl...

Jibbies & Loond get back to woodshedding in the summer sweatbox that is Houston, Tex., checking out tracks both new and old, dropping in on satan's newest powerpop exponents, enviously eyeing the European festival season, and discussing the ins-and-outs of all sorts of heavy and/or costumed acts over the years. Vader, Testament, Earth Crisis, Lock Up, and Hail!Hornet all figure prominently on the duo's watch list for new tunes. Ghost earn high marks from both J & L, before Looned explores the realms of Death and Jibbies gives a hearty endorsement to Weedeater's vid for 'Mancoon.' J's got one more in the chamber though, and not being one to let such things go to waste explains the greatness of Slipknot's Sonisphere UK tribute to fallen comrade Paul Gray to a respectful but unswayed Loond.

The Jibbies & Loond Show - Episode 011 - Through The Sonisphere & Beyond The Gates

Not long is Jibbies back from his jaunt across the pond to Austria and it’s Loond’s turn to head for Turkey where he attends Sonisphere Istanbul, catches a set by local Istanbul Metal hero’s - Murder King, and interviews their drummer - Onur Akca.  The guys discuss upcoming and highly anticipated new material from Machine Head and are psyched about the “an evening with Amon Amarth” tour.  Jibbies mentions Wino’s new band, Premonition 13 and the magnitude of it’s awesomness.  Jibbies also once again brings Michael Monroe into the conversation with the huge news of Dregen taking over on guitar duty from the departed Ginger.  The duo’s differences in taste are reflected in Loond’s ineloquent geeking out over Possessed’s “Beyond The Gates & The Eyes Of Horror”, while Jibbies exclaims that he is un-moved by this particular blast from the past.

Jibbies & Loond - Red Fang, European Tour 2011

Jibbies went trans-Atlantic earlier this month to check out Red Fang on tour in Europe with Earthship, Intronaut, and the Ocean. His venue of choice? Arena, in Vienna, Austria. If you're ever in town and there's a band on, you really should check it out. One of the cooler venues going. First up on the night were Germany's Earthship, a spin-off of the Ocean as it turns it out. Former the Ocean drummer Jan Oberg is out front on vox/guitar with the Ocean's own Robin Staps holding down the other ...

The Jibbies & Loond Show - Episode 008 - Haunted Ju Ju Bone

Here's how you know you're in the game....You're a Scandanavian thrash band putting out your 7th album and the interwebs are set ablaze with competing commentaries regarding how much it either sucks or rules. J&L join the fray with their own dissection of the Haunted's 'Unseen.' The verdict is the first of what ends up being a number of reviews of both old (Malice) and new heavy music. Finland and Brooklyn end up featuring heavily, before our duo eventually settle into the familiar lands of fire, chicks, mayhem, and the devil. Ain't that the way it always goes?

This episode recorded before but assembled after Rapture 2011.
