Jibbies & Loond: Machine Head - LIVE!

Please have a look at the first 15 minutes or so of Machine Head’s set from the House of Blues in Houston on Feb. 11, 2012. The band is currently touring ‘Unto The Locust,’ and though I personally preferred ‘The Blackening’ I have never seen them better live. Power just naturally flows from the band. They’re playing free and easy and are more deadly than ever as a result: effortless heaviness, the best of all worlds.

The Jibbies & Loond Show - Episode 027 - Goatwhore vs. Faster Pussycat

Your intrepid duo do their best to sift through the Bill Ward/Sharon Osbourne bullshit (Ward wins), before eventually finding a nice palate cleanser in welcoming Jesse Leach back to Killswitch Engage. Then, as J&L are going through some of their favorite recent and upcoming releases--including Dwellers’ ‘Good Morning Harakiri,’ out on Small Stone, and recent SS-signees Supermachine’s ‘Harder Than Soft’ EP--the showdown erupts: in one corner, Loond and Goatwhore, in the other Jibbies and Faster Pussycat. *Ding ding!* Seems like a mismatch, right? Well listen on dear reader! The battle eventually winds down and the duo use whatever energy is left discussing some of the US summer metal tours other than Mayhem and marveling at the glory of Hellfest 2012.

J&L want to share their sincere condolences and best thoughts with the Bello family.

The Jibbies & Loond Show - Episode 025 - Metal 2012!!

The celebrations of good cheer, holiness, and consumerism are over, and it is once again time for METAL!!...in all its shapes and sizes. Lots has happened since our duo last sat down together and they dive right in, tackling both the Ratt/Grohl collaboration and Howard Jones exit from Killswitch Engage. They then offer one last glance into 2011, checking out a few December releases that may have otherwise been overlooked including Black Pyramid 'II'. But onward! 2012 is gonna be HEAVY, Lamb of God setting the tone with the Jan. 24 release of 'Resolution' before launching into what is sure to be a globe-encompassing and domination-establishing tour. And its never too early to start talking festivals, J&L daydreaming outloud about the possibilities of a DesertFest/Roadburn/DesertFest 2-week European couch surf, before Jibbies goes all goofy for UK emo eradicators Hawk Eyes.

Jibbies' 2011 Metal Top 10

1.      Trap Them  - ‘Darker Handcraft’ – Prosthetic Records – Producer: Kurt Ballou                    With guitars slicing, drums pummeling, and vocals howling, ‘Darker Handcraft’ is nothing short of a full American hardcore realization of the terrible fun promised by Entombed’s ‘To Ride…’. I loved that album...

Review: Venomous Maximus

Houston’s Venomous Maximus performs heavy rock from an earlier time. ‘The Living Dead,’ from the band’s 2010 debut 7”, hearkens back to a pre-Pepper COC. Everything is recorded louder than everything else and Gregg Higgins sing-speak-chant vocal style seeths with barely contained aggression. The song’s bridge dives into the even earlier tones of first-wave heavy psychedelia. A-side ‘Give Up The Witch,’ meanwhile, takes these elements and adds ...

The Jibbies & Loond Show - Episode 023 - The First Name of Uriah

And then there were three.....Jibbies and Loond got a special in-studio visit from Houston ambient/noise/handmade music fixture J.D. Franklin this week, who was kind enough to first ply our duo with The Kracken and then share his thoughts on a wide variety of topics during the cast. The expanded crew weighed in on the late-2011 State of Metal, Paul Bostaph's post-Testament path, Kill Devil Hill (feat. Rex Brown, Vinny Appice, Dewey Bragg, and Mark Zavon), and Godflesh's upcoming appearance at Maryland DeathFest.
Lots of other twists and turns occurred along the way, so strap in and put it on.

Jibbies & Loond - Mastodon/Black Tusk/Venomous Maximus - Video Special

Every once in a while a perfect bill emerges. One band is doing some low-key gigs to start the tour for its biggest album yet (Mastodon). Another band is doing club dates in support of its own great new album (Black Tusk). These two cross paths by virtue of some highly focused booking. Add a highly touted local act more than happy to open things up (Venomous Maximus), set it all in an iconic old wooden room bordering on just plain to small for the event (Fitzge...

The Jibbies & Loond Show - Episode 021 - Prehistoric remnants and social disorder

Jibbies and Loond were both out in the field this time. Loond comes back with reports of one "one of the greatest show I have ever seen" while Jibbies keeps the fires stoked by describing another band as "on its way to being the biggest metal band in the world." Who could have inspired such ardor in our duo? Have a listen and find out! For your troubles you'll also get to hear about a big steaming turd of a record released by the reigning 'BMBITW,' metal and OWS, moshpit politics, and the seeming ascendence of right-wing elements in the scene. Don't worry though, no dried up hippy bs here. As always, nothing but the freshest, bestest, and heaviest tunes guide the way....down the left-hand path.
