The tour is set to bring some of the label’s newest and most promising acts as well as some heavy veterans on a near month-long trek across the face of America. Pulling out of the rock immersion camp that is SXSW, Jibbies & Loond recalibrate their gauges and figure out what the hell else has been going on the world of metal. Jibbies starts off with his assessment of Mark Morton and Dez Fafara’s Born Of The Storm project before digging into Overkill’s ‘The Electric Age’ and (to his own surprise) finding hope in Soulfly’s ‘Enslaved.’ The duo share some geeking out over the splendor of the Small Stone Recordings Jukeboxxx (now on Bandcamp) before Loond takes control for blasts from the past by Uncle Slam (‘Say Uncle’) and Primal Scream (no, not the Brit rockers, the NYC thrashers). Other news and nuggets of knowledge and mirth are passed on along the way, so have a listen below and fill yourself up with metal goodness.

Based on the strength of their Friday performance, Saturday sees Jibbies & Loond point their metal towards Red 7 in hopes of catching a full set from Cancer Bats. It seems, however, that they were not alone in this pursuit, the Alternative Press showcase they’re part of proving even more popular than Shirts For A Cure had the prior day. The line stretches ¾ of a block from Red 7’s door to the corner, and then another half block up Red River. Given the amount of time J had ...
Jibbies & Loond started Friday with one initial focus: Coliseum. Loond made it there. Jibbies did not. Loond said it was awesome. Jibbies believes him and is sad. By the time Jibbies, Jr., and K-McK make it through the Red 7 line, however, some of the best punk (with the craziest pit) any of them had seen in a while was in store. The poor saps still haven't figured out who they were looking at, so if you have a clue, let them know.
Jr. is still complaining 24 hrs later about...
After stopping by Red 7 to get the lay of the land, Jibbies set sail for the Scoot Inn, once again site of the Thrasher/Converse Deathmatch. Tonight's fare was also the first date of the 2012 Metal Alliance Tour, headlined by DevilDriver and also featuring the Faceless, 3 Inches Of Blood, Job For A Cowboy, Wretched, and Dying Fetus, and Impending Doom.
Rolling up on Scoot Inn brought back many great memories of last year, and Jibbies is very happy to report that the v...
What do you do as a stranger in Salt Lake City on a Monday night? Well, if you're me (or likely you) you get online and figure out what music is happening. Lucky me, the band this time around happened to be the Shrine. Hailing from Venice Beach, Calif., the Shrine deal what I would best term stoner boogie, but with shredding thrown into the mix by all three members. They were most of the way through at 2-month trek iwhen I saw them. Final testination? Two shows at SXSW in Austin, Tex.&...
Let’s say you’re trying to figure out what to do on Saturday night. Let’s say you like Kiss, but maybe have always been a little bit scared of the ‘tribute band’ notion. Well, it’s time to stop worrying and start having fun. Gene’s Addiction is a great night out. A number of things make it work. First, all the songs sound like Kiss. Second, the band doesn’t make itself out to be a Kiss copy band, but rather are truly a tribute. They love Kiss, and ...
Salt Lake City-based heavy rock duo Eagle Twin have completed their anticipated sophomore LP, The Feather Tipped the Serpent’s Scale, for release through Southern Lord later this year. The new Eagle Twin opus, their first full album in 3 years, picks up right where the band’s acclaimed debut LP The Unkindness of Crows left off. A split LP with the UK’s Pombagira was released in late 2010.
In this installment the crows documented in the firs...
