Formula 1: Italy - Vettel wins third of last four, Alonso P2

Photo: Getty Images/Mark Thompson Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber made it an all Red Bull front row in Monza. More remarkable, however, was the success of Nico Hulkenberg in nailing down P3 for Sauber and the lack of same for Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes), who failed to make it to Q3 for the first time in 67 races after winning four straight poles. Felipe Massa and Fernando Alonso did their best to keep the Tifosi at bay by putting their Ferraris on the grid at P4 and P5. Both Toro Rossos and both...

F1: Belgium – Vettel wins, extends season points lead

Photo: www.formula1.com The end of Formula 1’s 25-day summer break means a return to the 4.4-mile, 19-turn forested thrills of Spa Francorhamps for the Belgian Grand Prix. Sebastian Vettel (Red Bull Racing-Renault) led the chase for his fourth consecutive championship by 38 points over Kimi Raikkonen (Lotus-Renault) coming into the race. The oft-changing weather at Spa during grid formation was cloudy but dry. Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) won the pole, with Vettel starting next to him, the ...

V8 Supercars - Ipswich: McLaughlin, Mostert lead the rookie charge

Jamie Whincup (Red Bull Racing Australia, Holden) took the Saturday split 60/60-km race of the Coates Hire Ipswich 360 on the Red Bull test track from pole, half a second ahead of Scott McLaughlin (Fujitsu GRM, Holden), with Mark Winterbottom (Pepsi Max Crew FPR Ford) finishing third. Whincup dominated, leading at the halfway mark as well over McLaughlin and teammate Craig Lowndes. Two rookies, however, took wins in the 100-km Sunday races, McLaughlin finishing first in Round 23 and Wilson S...

Formula 1 2013 - Hungary: Hamilton takes first win of year

Photo: DPPI/Francois Flamand Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) won his third straight pole to start at the front of the field in Hungary, the last Formula 1 race before the series summer break. Sebastian Vettel (Red Bull) took the second slot, with Romain Grosjean (Lotus) out-qualifying teammate Kimi Raikkonen for the second time in three races to start third on the grid. Daniel Ricciardo (P8, Toro Rosso), competing with Raikkonen to succeed Mark Webber at Red Bull, started in the Top 10 for the four...

V8 Supercars: Skycity Triple Crown – Red Bull takes 2, Winterbottom 1

Red Bull Racing Australia continued to perform well, taking two of the three races in this weekend’s Skycity Triple Crown outside Darwin, and maintaining its championship lead. Even so, greater parity was seen than at the V8 Supercars’ debut in Austin, Tex., with six different drivers taking the nine podium positions available. Season points leader Jamie Whincup (Red Bull Racing Australia Holden) took the victory in Saturday’s 42-lap Race 17, beating Shane van Gisbergen (TEKN...

Formula 1 2013 - Canada: Vettel notches first Montreal win

Photo: Red Bull Both practice and qualifying saw on-and-off rain, with some of the heaviest reserved for Saturday’s qualifying sessions. Romain Grosjean (Lotus) failed to make it out of Q3, but kept his car in one piece. Felipe Massa (Ferrari), however, had his third hard crash in the past two events, his back end breaking loose during Q2 and sending him into a wall. In the end, the front row was locked down by a pair of the usual suspects, Sebastian Vettel (Red Bull) and Lewis Hamilto...

Formula 1 2013: Monaco Grand Prix: Rosberg dominates

Photo: Reuters Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton locked down the front row of the gird during qualifying, putting a definitive point on a week which had seen Mercedes consistently the fastest make in the field. It was Rosberg’s third straight pole and followed his posting the fasted times in each of the week's practice sessions. Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber (Red Bull) started P3 and P4. Hamilton got off the line fastest but Rosberg held the inside line going into Turn 1 to r...

With Craig Lowndes (Red Bull Racing Australia, Holden) having retired early from qualifying and lining up in P12, Garth Tander (Holden Racing Team) and Jason Bright (Team BOC, Holden) line up to start this race behind Lowndes’ teammate Jamie Whincup and Race 15 winner Fabian Coulthard (Lockwood Racing, Holden). V8 Supercars Race 15: Austin 400 – Coulthard wins

The starting three mimics the podium for the first to Australian V8 Supercars’ races at Circuit of the Americas: Jamie Whincup and Craig Lowndes (Red Bull Racing Australia, Holden), followed by Fabian Coulthard (Lockwood Racing, Holden)….likely bad news for the rest of the field. Each team brought 7 sets of dry-weather tires for the entire race weekend. This prompted some to go out for practice on wets and has left most teams with just two sets for the final two races. Mark Winte...

V8 Supercars: Austin 400 - Race 16 qualifying; Tander breaks into Top 3

Jamie Whincup (Red Bull Racing Australia) took the pole once again, driving his Holden to a best lap of 1:31.9948. Whincup took the spot on his final trip around the track, and did the bulk of his work in Sector 3, having not put up the best time in either of the prior two sectors. Fabian Coulthard (Lockwood Racing, Holden) will start Race 16 next to Whincup on the front row. Whincup’s teammate Craig Lowndes had to pit before the end of the session, leaving him at P12 on the grid with a t...
