Jibbies & Loond: Video Special - Top 10 Metal Cover Songs, Pt. 1

Jibbies & Loond love their metal. And lists are fun. Thus was the genesis of their Top 10 Metal Cover Songs project. As it turned out, the pool of metal is so deep and wide that the two didn’t have a single Top 10 song in common (Type O’s ‘Summer Breeze’ appeared on both lists, but outside of Loond’s Top 10). Given the lack of overlap, it only seemed right to present both lists. Combined, they give a great peak into metal’s love of the cover. And the fucke...

Jibbies & Loond – Interview: American Sharks

Earlier this year American Sharks issued its ‘Weedwizard’ 7” to enthusiastic response. Fans loved it. Critics loved it. Everybody wanted more. Word emerged that the enigmatic band would spend some time woodshedding this summer to get a proper full-length out. Jibbies & Loond decided it was time to investigate and American Sharks vocalist/guitarist Mike Hardin and drummer Nick Cornetti were happy to oblige. J&L: ‘Weedwizard’ was a great introduction for thos...

“That’s What He Said”: Venomous Maximus frontman Gregg Higgins talks full-length debut, ‘Beg Upon The Light’

Houston's Venomous Maximus just last week finished recording their full-length debut, 'Beg Upon The Light.' Vocalist/guitarist Gregg Higgins was kind enough to take a few minutes and talk to Jibbies, from the GonzoGeek-hosted, 'The Jibbies & Loond Show,' about both the new record and the band's upcoming eastern US tour. Jibbies: You’re about to finish tracking on the new record, your full-length debut. How has the recording process differed this time from the first couple of tr...

Jibbies & Loond: Video Special – Saint Vitus, Dixie Witch, Venomous Maximus

Poster by Shelby Hohl. Fitzgerald’s made the most of Saint Vitus' ‘Lillie F-65’ tour stop in Houston, opening up both floors of the venue to make it a night of non-stop metal. From Beyond kicked things off on the main stage upstairs, and put in a set belying their newness on the scene. A less shreddie The Shrine might be an apt comparison, more straight classic rock than stoner. And what a place to have your EP release party!   Sanctus Bellum played downstairs ear...

The Jibbies & Loond Show - Episode 035 - Godflesh at Maryland Deathfest

Guest hosts! Sometimes the show wouldn’t run without them. Loond had to step away from the mic this time around, making way for the return of prior guest JD Franklin (::kai/ros::) . He met up with Jibbies out front of Fitzgerald’s in Houston, where Saint Vitus, Dixie Witch, and Houston’s own Venomous Maximus were topping a bill of heavy goodness (video and VM interview to come). JD was fresh back from a trip to see Godflesh make their first US appearance in 13 years at Maryland Deathfest and tells all re: the splendor of Mr. JK Broadrick’s return. Jibbies then quizzes him about :::kai/ros::: upcoming performance at NMASS (New Media Art and Sound Summit) 2012, happening June 14-17 in Austin, Tex., before the two launch into their own dissection of S. Osbourne v. B. Ward and what does or does not constitute a Black Sabbath reunion. You also get some Vinny Stigma-inspired philosophy and a lovefest for the greatness of Suicidal Tendencies.Turn up your speakers and have a listen. It’s gonna be good

What I'm Into This Week - "Boneless Christian" by Coven

I recently obtained a CD entitled “Boneless Christian” by the obscure and cult followed band COVEN. This record came out in 1994 and is the third album by this Washington state band. From a historical background we all know of the hotbed Thrash scenes of San Francisco, Los Angeles, and New York City in the 80’s and early 90’s. However, there was quite a burgeoning and vibrant scene in Washington at the time as well. The upper North West had a unique amalgamation of bands ...

Review: Snake Road - 'Severed' EP

Philadelphia hardcore punk. That’s the three-word description bassist Travis Collison offers of his band, Snake Road. He’s not wrong. But fortunately for him, and the rest of the rocking world, Snake Road’s ‘Severed’ EP goes well beyond the straight hardcore motif. ‘Immunity’ pairs a straight rock n’ roll riff with the type of vocal agro typically reserved for the crust set. At barely over 1-minute long though, it’s over just as you’r...

The Jibbies & Loond Show – Episode 032 – Great Music and the Golden Globs

It’s getting near summer time and both the tours and releases are ramping up. Throw in some badass music that’s already out there but might not be as broadly appreciated as it should be, and you’ve got one hell of a metallic brew. Jibbies & Loond start off by previewing the metal highlights of this year’s Chaos in Tejas fest and getting amped for the Southern Lord Summer Tour. Delight is also shared at the idea of both Down and Saint Vitus hitting the road. Great music on their decks comes from Scotland, Sheffield, Michigan, Finland, and NYC among others. Onto each steel-forged, titanium-bonded, tungsten carbide tipped, glorious metal edifice, however, a little glop must fall. The Golden Globs awards are now about as hard and heavy as the flaky substance they’re named after. J&L diagnose the situation fully before dropping the blade on this once-proud institution.
