Accept ready to launch 'Blind Rage'

Heavy metal legends Accept will release their 14th studio album, ‘Blind Rage,’ Aug. 15 via Nuclear Blast Records. Andy Sneap (Megadeth, Napalm Death, Arch Enemy) produced the follow-up to 2012's ‘Stalingrad.’      The first single from Blind Rage, "Stampede", is already available.          "Whatever we do on record, it's there for eternity," says ACCEPT guitarist Wolf Hoffmann. "If you do something great it's not somethi...

SXSW 2014: Tragedy, punks, and fighting in the streets

Photo: Wilson Lee Photography   …and metal, always metal. But you have to cut a headline somewhere!   The night before I arrived, a 21-year old from Killeen, trying to escape from police chasing him on suspicion of having stolen the car he was in, ran down 23 people on a pedestrian section of Red River Ave., killing two and critically injuring 8 others. There was concern as to what the appropriate response should be, but in the end, the show(s) went on.   After dropp...

The Jibbies & Loond Show: Episode 060 - Of Rock And Retirement

Jibbies & Loond celebrate upcoming new releases from Orange Goblin, Truckfighters, and The Shrine; lament Lemmy’s up and down efforts to stay healthy, Dan Lilker’s retirement, and IHOP taking over a big chunk of the old Limelight; and generally bitch about the general suckfest that is the Grammy’s, particularly the slight of Jeff Hanneman during In Memorium. They also express their joy at the fine pairing of Goatwhore and 1349 on this year’s Metal Alliance tour, and their willingness to revisit headliners Behemoth with open minds and metal hearts.

Jibbies & Loond Video Special: Orange Goblin, Scorpion Child in Houston

Found these vids lying around the virtual closet while doing some end-2013 housecleaning. Late September had both Orange Goblin and Scorpion Child headlining North American tours. The two were scheduled at Fitzgerald’s in Houston on the same night; Goblin upstairs, Child down. Initially the venue was selling separate tickets to the shows, but as the date grew closer decided instead to charge one cover for both rooms. The result was a heavy music fan’s delight, with party metal (Wilso...

Jibbies' Top 10 Metal Albums of 2013

1. Clutch – ‘Earth Rocker’ (Weathermaker) – Producer: Machine For the follow-up to 2009’s ‘Strange Cousins From The West,’ Clutch took a step back into their heavier, more concise past with great results. All the groove is still there, the sound is at least as clean and organic as ever, and you will inevitably find your rump shaking while your head’s banging.     2. Red Fang – ‘Whales and Leeches’ (Relapse) –...

The Jibbies & Loond Show - Episode 059 - 2013 Top 10 Metal Albums

Just in time for last-minute stocking stuffing for the metalhead in your life (Don’t have one? Too bad for you.), Jibbies & Loond present their Top 13 Metal Albums of 2013. The duo overlap twice (Carcass, Clutch), but have a lot of fun reminding each other of some the truly great music that came out under the heavy flag this year. Keeping with the generally positive vibe of the show, J&L stick to what was good until the very end, when Jibbies can no longer contain his wrath for one very-hyped, very shitty piece of music. Enjoy the ‘cast, and let us know what we should’ve included but didn’t.

The Jibbies & Loond Show: Episode 057 – Goblins vs. Scorpions

Jibbies & Loond hit the town a couple of Sundays back for a great night of heavy rock music. Fitzgerald’s took what was initially booked as two shows on the same day – one tour headlined by Orange Goblin upstairs, another by Scorpion Child down – and decided instead to turn it into a mini-fest, with one ticket letting you go back and forth between the two. With the prog explorations of Lazer/Wulf, the garage cock rock of Wilson, the 70s-style greatness of both Gypsy Hawk and Kadavar, and the melodic thrash of Holy Grail also on hand, it created a metal buffet of truly epic proportions. And instead of telling you about it after the fact our duo took their gear into the field to report from the front lines while their ears still rang.

Jibbies & Loond Video Special: Clutch, The Sword, Dixie Witch, and American Sharks

Houston’s House of Blues played host to this great summer kickoff show. Loond and I went to check it out, and here’s some of what we heard and saw. Clutch did its normal spectacular job of laying down a rockin’, rump-shaking, yet oh-so-heavy groove. They are truly a band apart, creating a whole each and every show which doesn’t only eclipse the sum of its parts but succeeds in transporting the audience to a different time and space. If they’re not already, they will...
