Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) came into the race with a 28-point lead on teammate Nico Rosberg, and 67 points on Sebastian Vettel (Ferrari). Each Formula 1 race awards 25 points for a win. Ryan Hunter-Reay won the ABC Supply 500 at Pocono Raceway ahead of Josef Newgarden.
