Formula 1: India – Vettel wins race, 4th consecutive world championship

Sebastian Vettel’s (Red Bull) dominance coming into India was clear: 5 straight 2013 victories, and having won each pole, led every lap, and won each race in the 3-year history of the Indian Grand Prix. A Top 5 finish for Vettel would give him his fourth straight championship. In order for Fernando Alonso (Ferrari) to remain alive he needed to finish either first or second.   Nico Rosberg (Mercedes) started next to Vettel, with Rosberg’s teammate Lewis  Hamilton and Mark ...

Formula 1: Japan – Vettel wins fifth straight, Gutierrez scores first points

Sebastian Vettel came to Suzuka on a four-race winning streak and with a chance to clinch the 2013 Formula 1 driver’s championship, joining Michael Schumacher, Juan Manuel Fangio and Alain Prost as the only drivers to win four or more. His teammate, Mark Webber, however, won the pole. Fernando Alonso (Ferrari), second in the points, started P8 and would remain in contention even with a Vettel win if he placed there or higher. Webber started second on the grid, marking the first all-Red Bul...

V8 Supercars: Sandown 500 – Red Bulls finish 1-2

The typical Australian V8 Supercars event consists of multiple 40ish-lap road course/street circuit races on the same weekend. This weekend, however, brought the first of the season’s three consecutive endurance races, the Sandown 500; 161 laps for total of 500 km on the 3.1 km, 12-turn road course. Each car adds a co-driver for these events (which also include the legendary Bathurst 1000 and Gold Coast 600). Will Davison and co-driver Steve Owen put their Pepsi Max FPR Ford on the pole,...

Formula 1: Italy - Vettel wins third of last four, Alonso P2

Photo: Getty Images/Mark Thompson Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber made it an all Red Bull front row in Monza. More remarkable, however, was the success of Nico Hulkenberg in nailing down P3 for Sauber and the lack of same for Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes), who failed to make it to Q3 for the first time in 67 races after winning four straight poles. Felipe Massa and Fernando Alonso did their best to keep the Tifosi at bay by putting their Ferraris on the grid at P4 and P5. Both Toro Rossos and both...

Photo: www.formula1.com The end of Formula 1’s 25-day summer break means a return to the 4.4-mile, 19-turn forested thrills of Spa Francorhamps for the Belgian Grand Prix. Sebastian Vettel (Red Bull Racing-Renault) led the chase for his fourth consecutive championship by 38 points over Kimi Raikkonen (Lotus-Renault) coming into the race. The oft-changing weather at Spa during grid formation was cloudy but dry. Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) won the pole, with Vettel starting next to him, the ...

Formula 1 2013 - Canada: Vettel notches first Montreal win

Photo: Red Bull Both practice and qualifying saw on-and-off rain, with some of the heaviest reserved for Saturday’s qualifying sessions. Romain Grosjean (Lotus) failed to make it out of Q3, but kept his car in one piece. Felipe Massa (Ferrari), however, had his third hard crash in the past two events, his back end breaking loose during Q2 and sending him into a wall. In the end, the front row was locked down by a pair of the usual suspects, Sebastian Vettel (Red Bull) and Lewis Hamilto...

Formula 1 2013: Monaco Grand Prix: Rosberg dominates

Photo: Reuters Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton locked down the front row of the gird during qualifying, putting a definitive point on a week which had seen Mercedes consistently the fastest make in the field. It was Rosberg’s third straight pole and followed his posting the fasted times in each of the week's practice sessions. Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber (Red Bull) started P3 and P4. Hamilton got off the line fastest but Rosberg held the inside line going into Turn 1 to r...
