Houston’s Venomous Maximus performs heavy rock from an earlier time. ‘The Living Dead,’ from the band’s 2010 debut 7”, hearkens back to a pre-Pepper COC. Everything is recorded louder than everything else and Gregg Higgins sing-speak-chant vocal style seeths with barely contained aggression. Jibbies & Loond get back to woodshedding in the summer sweatbox that is Houston, Tex., checking out tracks both new and old, dropping in on satan's newest powerpop exponents, enviously eyeing the European festival season, and discussing the ins-and-outs of all sorts of heavy and/or costumed acts over the years. Vader, Testament, Earth Crisis, Lock Up, and Hail!Hornet all figure prominently on the duo's watch list for new tunes. Ghost earn high marks from both J & L, before Looned explores the realms of Death and Jibbies gives a hearty endorsement to Weedeater's vid for 'Mancoon.' J's got one more in the chamber though, and not being one to let such things go to waste explains the greatness of Slipknot's Sonisphere UK tribute to fallen comrade Paul Gray to a respectful but unswayed Loond.
