King Chiefs

The starving artist.  From a historical perspective, the term invokes thoughts of Schubert, Van Gogh, and Poe.  But in the modern sense it makes one think of a person completely and utterly dedicated to their craft.  Where the dedication comes first and foremost before monetary gain.  I believe I know such a person.  His name is Paul Valle and he is at the helm of an awesome band called King Chiefs. Paul is a phenomenal song-writer, singer, and multi-instrumentalist.&...

MOS GENERATOR

Once in a while a Rock band comes along that blows your socks off…and everyone needs to know about it. In this case I am referring to the most awesome Mos Generator. Hailing from Port Orchard, Washington; this three piece is the epitome of timeless, no-frills, and incredibly talented. They are bluesy, heavy, doomy, jazz fusiony, and killer boogie. The technical precision, execution, and high caliber musicianship of the rhythm section consists of Sean Booth (bass) and Jon Garrett (drums). ...

The Jibbies & Loond Show: Episode 065 - Best Albums of 2014

In this episode Loond, who was diligently paying attention all year, and Jibbies (who was not) discuss the former’s list of Top Albums for 2014. Jibbies has since caught up with almost all of them and can confirm that Loond knew what the hell he was talking about. They also check in on Down’s pulling the plug, the 4-person C.O.C. reformation, and Black Tusk’s decision to keep it rolling.

SXSW 2014: Tragedy, punks, and fighting in the streets

Photo: Wilson Lee Photography   …and metal, always metal. But you have to cut a headline somewhere!   The night before I arrived, a 21-year old from Killeen, trying to escape from police chasing him on suspicion of having stolen the car he was in, ran down 23 people on a pedestrian section of Red River Ave., killing two and critically injuring 8 others. There was concern as to what the appropriate response should be, but in the end, the show(s) went on.   After dropp...

More three-piece fuzz for your nuzz. Truckfighters kick off European tour, 'Universe' out in US Feb. 4

One of the first truly exciting rock releases of 2014 is almost here. Swedish power trio Truckfighters will release its fourth studio LP ‘Universe’ in North America Feb. 4 via Fuzzorama Records. The Swedish band, who Queens of the Stone Age frontman Josh Homme has called "not just the best band I'd ever heard, but the best band that ever existed" and who has created some of the best stoner rock records of the last decade, describes th...

Jibbies & Loond Video Special: Orange Goblin, Scorpion Child in Houston

Found these vids lying around the virtual closet while doing some end-2013 housecleaning. Late September had both Orange Goblin and Scorpion Child headlining North American tours. The two were scheduled at Fitzgerald’s in Houston on the same night; Goblin upstairs, Child down. Initially the venue was selling separate tickets to the shows, but as the date grew closer decided instead to charge one cover for both rooms. The result was a heavy music fan’s delight, with party metal (Wilso...

The Jibbies & Loond Show - Episode 059 - 2013 Top 10 Metal Albums

Just in time for last-minute stocking stuffing for the metalhead in your life (Don’t have one? Too bad for you.), Jibbies & Loond present their Top 13 Metal Albums of 2013. The duo overlap twice (Carcass, Clutch), but have a lot of fun reminding each other of some the truly great music that came out under the heavy flag this year. Keeping with the generally positive vibe of the show, J&L stick to what was good until the very end, when Jibbies can no longer contain his wrath for one very-hyped, very shitty piece of music. Enjoy the ‘cast, and let us know what we should’ve included but didn’t.
