Valtteri Bottas (Mercedes) earned his second career pole. Championship-leader Sebastian Vettel (Ferrari) started second, followed by teammate Kimi Raikkonen. The two Red Bulls were next, Daniel Ricciardo ahead of Max Verstappen, with Romain Grosjean (Haas) slotting in at P6. Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) lined up P8 after a five grid-spot penalty for changing his gearbox. Ricciardo moved up to third and Grosjean fourth through the first series of corners, Verstappen after a terrible start and Turn ...

F1: Russia – Bottas takes career-first win

Valtteri Bottas (Mercedes) out-qualified teammate Lewis Hamilton to start third on the grid in Sochi, lined up behind the Ferraris of pole-sitter Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen. Bottas split the Ferraris at the start and passed Vettel for the lead going into Turn 2. The lead didn’t change hands for the rest of the race, but Vettel did close to inside 1 sec during the final laps, forcing the Finn to work for his debut victory. Bottas’s win came 81 races into his career. Vettel...

Valtteri Bottas (Mercedes) won the first pole of his F1 career, teammate Lewis Hamilton lining up next to him. Sebastian Vettel (Ferrari) lined up in P3 aside Daniel Ricciardo (Red Bull). Row 3 was also a Ferrari-Red Bull affair: Kimi Raikkonen ahead of Max Verstappen. Bottas, still in the lead, reported the beginning of problems with his rear ...

F1: Belgium – Rosberg wins, Ricciardo follows; Hamilton P21 to P3

The summer break ended with intrigue and accomplishment. Mercedes’ Nico Rosberg won pole at Spa-Fracorchamps, while grid penalties put his championship-leading teammate on the back row of the field. With a race win worth 25 points and 19 points separating the two, the implications were clearer. Max Verstappen (Red Bull) lined up next to Rosberg, at 18 years-old becoming the youngest driver ever to start on the front row of a Formula 1 grid. Verstappen was the only driver in the Top 5 to st...

A temporary street circuit in Baku, Azerbaijan, is home for the return of the Grand Prix of Europe. F1: Abu Dhabi – Rosberg wins third straight to close 2015

Nico Rosberg (Mercedes) won the Brazilian Grand Prix two weeks ago. He started on pole and led the entire race; the same for teammate Lewis Hamilton in second, and more or less the entire top part of the grid. Interlagos might be a fun circuit to drive, and a beautiful one to watch cars turn laps on, but riveting competition is not its forte. I love this form of this sport, but Brazil scored one for the haters. Rosberg and Hamilton topped qualifying again at Yas Marina. Kimi Raikkonen (Ferrari)...

F1: Russia – Hamilton, Vettel joined by Perez/Force India on podium

Nico Rosberg beat Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton to pole position. Mercedes came into the race needing to score 3 more points than Ferrari to clinch the constructor’s championship. Williams’ Valtteri Bottas qualified third. Most drivers were expected to stop just once on the low-abrasion Sochi circuit. Sebastian Vettel (Ferrari) started P4. Kimi Raikkonen (Ferrari) took third from Bottas through the first few corners. A safety car came out following a spin and collisions at the ba...
