The Jibbies & Loond Show - Episode 039 - Testament, 'arry, and #FreeRandyBlythe

Jibbies brings tidings of new death metal glory from the great white north, having caught Montreal’s mighty Dark Century in Calgary. Before that, however, our duo extol the virtues of first Testament, via their new album ‘Dark Roots of Earth,’ and Brad Gillis-era Ozzy, via the long-awaited commercial release of the ‘Speak Of The Devil’ live concert DVD. Recorded in Irvine, Calif., a few months after Randy Rhoads’ death, it’s still not the full-Sabbath glory of the Ritz double-vinyl LP show, but it’s damn fine. J&L also ponder what on earth is happening regarding Lamb of God frontman Randy Blythe’s on-going incarceration in a Czech prison and the pending release of debut solo album, ‘British Lion,’ from none other than Iron Maiden bassist Steve Harris.

Welcome one and all to our little Metal show. This episode proves to be one of the duo’s longest, loudest, raucous, and most passionate exchanges thus far. The boys discuss their most recent outings in terms of live music. Jibbies gives his run down of Machine Head at The HOB and uber-excited about witnessing the latest incarnation of Faster Pussycat. Loond talks us through his witnessing of the mighty Goatwhore and some all out cow-punk-rock ’n roll with The Spittin Cobras and The Supersuckers. The latest on the Sabbath reunion is discussed and Jibbies drops some major news of a spectacle due to be called Ozzy And Friends that will be touring in place of Sabbath. It will be comprised of Ozzy, Geezer, Zakk Wylde, and a yet un-announced drummer or drummers. Fancy that! SmallStone Records’ new batch of signees is heralded. Loond gets very passionate and outspoken about his feelings on Dez bringing back Coal Chamber and three ex-Trouble members forming and touring as The Skull. Loond fills us in on The Melvins and their alter-ego called Melvins Light. And the show is rounded out with a roll call of upcoming new releases from the likes of Baroness, Kyuss Lives, High On Fire, and many more.

RIP Ronnie James Dio

I think I’m still in denial. Ronnie James Dio was going to live forever. Hell, it seemed like he already had. I first became aware of him when he took over for Ozzy in Sabbath and cannot possibly count the number of times I played both ‘Heaven and Hell’ and ‘Mob Rules.’ I love me some Ozzy, but damn, those were two fine metal albums. I was too young to attend the ‘Black and Blue Tour,’ featuring the Dio-fronted Sabbath on tour with Blue Oyster Cult, bu...

In a role that looks likely to eclipse fellow rocker Steven Adler's appearance in slasher comedy 'Dahmer vs. Gacy' erstwhile Black Label Society/Ozzy axeman Zakk Wylde plays Uncle Jed to title charcter Bones White in late-80s set coming-of-age flick '`Bones.' The movie,  the writing and directorial debut of Frank Pestarino, is described as a "heart-breaking...story [about] four teens growing up in 1989 blue-collar New York" and a bond that ties them together for life.
