The Jibbies & Loond Show - Episode 051 - SXSW 2013 Metal Preview

It’s that time again folks: SXSW, the annual excuse for attendees to know exactly where they’ll be on St. Patrick’s Day each year, or to be conflicted about how they’re going to hit the next day party and watch the first rounds of March Madness at the same time. Jibbies & Loond don’t brook these distractions lightly. Their mission is clear and their aim is true; metal immersion. If you are of similar purpose and think you have the stamina to keep up, this episode lays out everywhere you need to be to catch all the top-shelf metal you can while staggering around Austin wondering why you keep forgetting to eat and if your feet really will ever be the same again, again.

Our duo also reflect upon the Randy Blythe not-guilty verdict, look in on what Howard Jones has been up to, revel in the continued ascent of ATX’s own Scorpion Child, and try to keep up with the dueling Queensryches.

#RandyIsFree….but still must face trial

Photo: Blesk - Jiří Hadač Lamb of God frontman Randy Blythe, shown here in a Czech courtroom, has been freed from a Czech prison after being held for over a month on suspicion of manslaughter stemming from an incident in which a fan at a 2010 Lamb of God show in Prague died. His lawyers posted roughly $400,000 bond to secure his release, which Czech paper Blesk.cz reported was gathered from his bandmates. Blythe boarded a plane to the US immediately following his release,...

The Jibbies & Loond Show - Episode 039 - Testament, 'arry, and #FreeRandyBlythe

Jibbies brings tidings of new death metal glory from the great white north, having caught Montreal’s mighty Dark Century in Calgary. Before that, however, our duo extol the virtues of first Testament, via their new album ‘Dark Roots of Earth,’ and Brad Gillis-era Ozzy, via the long-awaited commercial release of the ‘Speak Of The Devil’ live concert DVD. Recorded in Irvine, Calif., a few months after Randy Rhoads’ death, it’s still not the full-Sabbath glory of the Ritz double-vinyl LP show, but it’s damn fine. J&L also ponder what on earth is happening regarding Lamb of God frontman Randy Blythe’s on-going incarceration in a Czech prison and the pending release of debut solo album, ‘British Lion,’ from none other than Iron Maiden bassist Steve Harris.

The Jibbies & Loond Show – Episode 031 – The Future, The Past, And Now

Pulling out of the rock immersion camp that is SXSW, Jibbies & Loond recalibrate their gauges and figure out what the hell else has been going on the world of metal. Jibbies starts off with his assessment of Mark Morton and Dez Fafara’s Born Of The Storm project before digging into Overkill’s ‘The Electric Age’ and (to his own surprise) finding hope in Soulfly’s ‘Enslaved.’ The duo share some geeking out over the splendor of the Small Stone Recordings Jukeboxxx (now on Bandcamp) before Loond takes control for blasts from the past by Uncle Slam (‘Say Uncle’) and Primal Scream (no, not the Brit rockers, the NYC thrashers). Other news and nuggets of knowledge and mirth are passed on along the way, so have a listen below and fill yourself up with metal goodness.

Jibbies & Loond: SXSW 2012 - Metal Alliance tour

After stopping by Red 7 to get the lay of the land, Jibbies set sail for the Scoot Inn, once again site of the Thrasher/Converse Deathmatch. Tonight's fare was also the first date of the 2012 Metal Alliance Tour, headlined by DevilDriver and also featuring the Faceless, 3 Inches Of Blood, Job For A Cowboy, Wretched, and Dying Fetus, and Impending Doom. Rolling up on Scoot Inn brought back many great memories of last year, and Jibbies is very happy to report that the v...

The Jibbies & Loond Show - Episode 025 - Metal 2012!!

The celebrations of good cheer, holiness, and consumerism are over, and it is once again time for METAL!!...in all its shapes and sizes. Lots has happened since our duo last sat down together and they dive right in, tackling both the Ratt/Grohl collaboration and Howard Jones exit from Killswitch Engage. They then offer one last glance into 2011, checking out a few December releases that may have otherwise been overlooked including Black Pyramid 'II'. But onward! 2012 is gonna be HEAVY, Lamb of God setting the tone with the Jan. 24 release of 'Resolution' before launching into what is sure to be a globe-encompassing and domination-establishing tour. And its never too early to start talking festivals, J&L daydreaming outloud about the possibilities of a DesertFest/Roadburn/DesertFest 2-week European couch surf, before Jibbies goes all goofy for UK emo eradicators Hawk Eyes.

The Jibbies & Loond Show - Episode 019 - Black Tusk interview

The J&L hotline rang as we were getting this episode together and on the other end, calling on location from a very interesting day job, was James, drummer from Black Tusk. We had a great talk about all things BT which you can hear at the end of this episode. But first, J&L opine on recent offerengs from Rwake, Coliseum, Black Cobra, Tombs, and one band that Jibbies reckons has an album-of-the-year candidate on their hands. The duo then talk some Dez Fafara, in particular his political activism and decision to launch a Coal Chamber reunion. Tune in now, there's great metal ahead!
