Friday LinkFrogging - 3/8/13

Avast mateys! It’s spring break here in Texas; time for rum, music (in the form of SXSW), and booty. The occasional Bomb Pop never hurts either. I’ve been left the helm again this week and have reached both forward and backwards for my Cheesecake selection: forward in that the duo featured – Ashley Benson and Vanessa Hudgens – are two of four female leads in Mar. 22’s super action-packed release ‘Spring Breakers’ (joined by Selena Gomez and Rachel Kori...

Welcome one and all to our little Metal show. This episode proves to be one of the duo’s longest, loudest, raucous, and most passionate exchanges thus far. The boys discuss their most recent outings in terms of live music. Jibbies gives his run down of Machine Head at The HOB and uber-excited about witnessing the latest incarnation of Faster Pussycat. Loond talks us through his witnessing of the mighty Goatwhore and some all out cow-punk-rock ’n roll with The Spittin Cobras and The Supersuckers. The latest on the Sabbath reunion is discussed and Jibbies drops some major news of a spectacle due to be called Ozzy And Friends that will be touring in place of Sabbath. It will be comprised of Ozzy, Geezer, Zakk Wylde, and a yet un-announced drummer or drummers. Fancy that! SmallStone Records’ new batch of signees is heralded. Loond gets very passionate and outspoken about his feelings on Dez bringing back Coal Chamber and three ex-Trouble members forming and touring as The Skull. Loond fills us in on The Melvins and their alter-ego called Melvins Light. And the show is rounded out with a roll call of upcoming new releases from the likes of Baroness, Kyuss Lives, High On Fire, and many more.

Jibbies & Loond: Faster Pussycat - LIVE!

Faster Pussycat is on tour right now. A sighting a few years back on a side stage at Rock The Bayou proved to be a complete mind destroyer, nostalgic curiosity being replaced by reborn fanaticism. The current version of the band isn’t a trip down memory lane, nor is it some updated attempt to snag a current genre. What you get is an absolutely current, absolutely sincere, absolutely crushing gutter rock band playing songs both new and old like the classics of the genre they are. ...

The Jibbies & Loond Show - Episode 027 - Goatwhore vs. Faster Pussycat

Your intrepid duo do their best to sift through the Bill Ward/Sharon Osbourne bullshit (Ward wins), before eventually finding a nice palate cleanser in welcoming Jesse Leach back to Killswitch Engage. Then, as J&L are going through some of their favorite recent and upcoming releases--including Dwellers’ ‘Good Morning Harakiri,’ out on Small Stone, and recent SS-signees Supermachine’s ‘Harder Than Soft’ EP--the showdown erupts: in one corner, Loond and Goatwhore, in the other Jibbies and Faster Pussycat. *Ding ding!* Seems like a mismatch, right? Well listen on dear reader! The battle eventually winds down and the duo use whatever energy is left discussing some of the US summer metal tours other than Mayhem and marveling at the glory of Hellfest 2012.

J&L want to share their sincere condolences and best thoughts with the Bello family.

Geekdom reborn: Rev. Monroe presiding

A long time ago, on a shoreline far far away there lived a boy who liked nothing more than rifling through his parents’ record collections, putting the headphones on, and disappearing to a place even further away. Particular favorites included: ‘Sgt. Pepper’s,’ ‘Apostrophe,’ ‘Cruisin’ With Ruben and the Jets,’ and ‘Out Of The Blue.’ The first album I ever owned was K-tels ‘Disco Nights’ compilation. Grandmas are ...

Well, not in real  life. But he plays a Jeffrey Dahmer victim in new 'slasher comedy' 'Dahmer vs. Gacy.' You can see Adler very briefly around the :41 and 1:03 marks in the trailer for the Ford Austin movie.  Adler reportedly first gets picked up and then killed with a drill to the head by Dahmer. Steven Adler, ready to rock! I wish I could make a joke about it being payback for all the pain he's caused the rest of us via his on-going musica...

I could easily have lived there for four days. Coming and going for four days would've been a drag. But the combination of friendly yet functional security and a crowd to match would've made it a very nice place to live, listen to music, and sit in the sun. As it was, one day was all that was possible this year. Inside the gates Cool: Being able to find free street parking within even Houstonian walking distances to the venue, saving $15 and avoiding a rutted patch of ...
