The Jibbies & Loond Show - Episode 064 - With Walter From Funeral Horse

Welcome back rivet-heads. On this episode we have a very special guest sitting in with Loond...Walter (guitar/vocals) from local Stoner Metal trio – Funeral Horse. The guys talk about lots of exciting happenings in the FH camp in terms of line up changes, the upcoming record, and upcoming European tour. Be sure to catch these guys ripping it up at Rudyard's on 11/7 and 11/14.

The guys also talk about other notable tid-bits in the Metal world...line up change in Devildriver, Malcolm Young's condition, the passing of Jack Bruce, Mastodon's twerk-fest Mother Load video, and Loond discusses his experience seeing Living Colour live. Walter and Loond wrap up with some thoughts on new releases by the likes of Death Penalty, Sanctuary, Lo Pan, and Decapitated.

The Jibbies & Loond Show: Episode 063 - Faith No More returns!

In this episode we herald the return of Faith No More, talk about new music from Orange Goblin, Red Fang, and Cavalera Conspiracy, and begin hyping the Fallcore 2014 extravaganza later this year in HTX. Loond clues us in on shows he’s been checking out, including Queensryche’s tour, then he and Jibbies descend into bemoaning Houston’s continued evident B-rating as a place for tours to stop and ridiculing both Slipknot’s new-mask policy and Geoff Tate’s feverishly humping away at destroying whatever remaining cred he has.

Conservative Metal - WTF?

I’m dismayed at the amount of Metal musicians who are right-wing/conservative/Republican leaning in their socio-political views.  I have always thought of Metal as being a form of counter-culture.  It stands for rebellion, being different, anti-establishment, and anti-conformist.  These are concepts that the Right does not openly embrace.  When I think of Right-wingers, I don’t think Metal-head…I think of stuffy old rich backward small-minded intolerant Chr...

The Jibbies & Loond Show - Episode 062 - Who Is In Who Is Out

We are back with another jaunt into our favorite world...the world of METAL. In this episode our duo delves heavily into the many personnel changes that have occurred recently in the ranks of many of our favorite bands. Zetro is back in Exodus, Blacky is out of VoiVod, Marco is back in The Haunted, and the extremely hot Nita Strauss is playing for Alice Cooper. The guys talk about some new records that have them jazzed from the likes of Goatwhore, Arch Enemy, Trap Them, COC, Accept, and Shakra. The episode is rounded out with a convo on the amusing re-surfacing of Chris Holmes of WASP fame.

The Jibbies & Loond Show - Episode 061 - Been Too Long

Its been way too long, but J&L have come together again for another episode of Metal.  A bunch has gone down since we last tickled your ear-buds and the guys touch on some of that in this installment.  The Queensryche saga/settlement is discussed and if that saga wasn't enough...we have a similar saga on our hands in the Entombed camp with two versions of said band now floating around.  The guys also talk about the Tim Lambesis conviction and find it quite funny that he and As I Lay Dying were a “Christian” band.  The guys are stoked about news that Pepper Keenan wants to get back to writing and playing with C.O.C and touch on the stepping down of Angela Gassow from Arch Enemy and the stepping in of Alissa White-Gluz.  To round things out, new records from Prong and Mos Generator are heralded by Loond before our duo departs to see Red Fang, Big Business, and American Sharks at Fitz.

SXSW 2014: Tragedy, punks, and fighting in the streets

Photo: Wilson Lee Photography   …and metal, always metal. But you have to cut a headline somewhere!   The night before I arrived, a 21-year old from Killeen, trying to escape from police chasing him on suspicion of having stolen the car he was in, ran down 23 people on a pedestrian section of Red River Ave., killing two and critically injuring 8 others. There was concern as to what the appropriate response should be, but in the end, the show(s) went on.   After dropp...
