Phone Chat With John Bush

I recently took part in the PledgeMusic campaign for Armored Saint’s new live record called ‘Carpe Noctum’.  One of the donation packages was a phone call with one of the members of the band of your choosing.  I jumped on this opportunity to talk to one of the guys from one of my favorite bands of all time.  I saw the Saint open for Queensryche in November of this past year and took part in the meet and greet at that show.  I got to meet the band on their to...

My Favorite Albums Of 2016

Sumerlands – Self Titled (Relapse Records) – The debut record by this 5 piece from Philly is a stunning piece of music from beginning to end.  Inventive riff after riff cascades over the listener providing a foundation for interesting and memorable arrangements.  Phil Swanson’s voice is so dang majestic and the way it soars over the music is sonic sorcery.  There’s definitely a nod to the 70’s and 80’s, but the album still retains its own identi...

MOS GENERATOR

Once in a while a Rock band comes along that blows your socks off…and everyone needs to know about it. In this case I am referring to the most awesome Mos Generator. Hailing from Port Orchard, Washington; this three piece is the epitome of timeless, no-frills, and incredibly talented. They are bluesy, heavy, doomy, jazz fusiony, and killer boogie. The technical precision, execution, and high caliber musicianship of the rhythm section consists of Sean Booth (bass) and Jon Garrett (drums). ...

My Favorite Albums Of 2015

Goatsnake – Black Age Blues (Southern Lord) – The mighty Goatsnake returned this year with a superb album of doomy bluesy groove. The harmonica and soulful female backing vocals lend an awesome Delta Blues feel/influence that works so well in the grand context of this brilliant record. Doomy in the sense that some of the songs are fairly slow, but the record as a whole is not plodding, sludgy, or oppressive. It’s got a really uplifting vibe to it. Killing Joke – Pylon (S...

The Jibbies & Loond Show - Episode 068 - Have Faith

We're back kids. The frequency may not be like it used to be, but there's always good stuff in the world of Metal to gab about. Loond throws in some words on the re-issue of Num Skull's Ritually Abused debut. Jibbies gives the run down on Faith No More and openers Napalm Death show. Loond updates us on the Overkill/Symphony X show. The guys also discuss how p...

Killing Joke - Pylon

Killing Joke continues to make some of the most incredible music that has graced mankind’s ears in their over 37 years of existence.  This phenomenal band has just released their 15th album entitled “Pylon” and it is simply mind blowing.  I cannot think of a more urgent, compelling, important, relevant, captivating, aggressive, and beautiful record than this one for 2015.  “Pylon” is pure sonic majesty and in its 10 tracks it takes the listener on a j...

Armored Saint - Win Hands Down

It has been five years since the release of 'La Raza' and the mighty Armored Saint are back with a new record chock full of more classic Heavy Rock/Metal anthems. Much like 'La Raza'; 'Win Hands Down' is built on a chassis of Modern Rock song structures. There is still that classic Metal vibe, but this record is less inspired by NWOBHM as it is by the Heavy Rock of today. With that said; 'Win Hands Down' is another timeless album of songs that will endure when the next fad has come and gone. My ...

The Jibbies & Loond Show - Episode 066 - Guest Host Zaid Hydari

Welcome to another episode with a guest host...my little brother Zaid. In this episode we get a perspective from a member of a younger generation on Metal. An interesting discussion is had on how people “discover” Metal and what happens when they do not have that incredible privilege. We also talk about Metal from an international perspective...especially from an Eastern stand-point. The episode culminates in a conversation about the awesome Iraqi band Acrassicauda. Horns Up! &ndas...

My Favorite Albums Of 2014

Death Penalty – Self Titled (Rise Above Records) – One of the finest Riff Merchants of our time, Gaz Jennings (ex-Cathedral), has put together a phenomenal band and record for 2014. The weight and heft of the cascading riffs on this record are glorious. Michelle Nocon has some incredible pipes and her vocal performance is spectacular. Memorable, catchy, mid-tempo stomp ‘n swagger, infectious thick groove, with deadly doses of doom. Can’t stop listening to this slab ...
