Jamie Whincup (Red Bull Racing Australia, Holden) took the Saturday split 60/60-km race of the Coates Hire Ipswich 360 on the Red Bull test track from pole, half a second ahead of Scott McLaughlin (Fujitsu GRM, Holden), with Mark Winterbottom (Pepsi Max Crew FPR Ford) finishing third. Whincup dominated, leading at the halfway mark as well over McLaughlin and teammate Craig Lowndes.

Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) won his third straight pole to start at the front of the field in Hungary, the last Formula 1 race before the series summer break. Sebastian Vettel (Red Bull) took the second slot, with Romain Grosjean (Lotus) out-qualifying teammate Kimi Raikkonen for the second time in three races to start third on the grid.
Daniel Ricciardo (P8, Toro Rosso), competing with Raikkonen to succeed Mark Webber at Red Bull, started in the Top 10 for the four...
Houston’s House of Blues played host to this great summer kickoff show. Loond and I went to check it out, and here’s some of what we heard and saw. Clutch did its normal spectacular job of laying down a rockin’, rump-shaking, yet oh-so-heavy groove. They are truly a band apart, creating a whole each and every show which doesn’t only eclipse the sum of its parts but succeeds in transporting the audience to a different time and space. If they’re not already, they will...

What with the locals getting out and touring and the nationals skipping Houston, heavy music in the capitol of Humidland has gotten a little bit weird of late. American Sharks revisited their roots, playing a benefit in H-town before hitting the road. Raven is back together and touring, but without any Texas stops, and Vista Chino is also hitting the road without passing through the state. But a new darkness is about to set upon Austin, something so wicked and horrible I can’t possibly let the NSA see it typed here. They (and you) are going to have to listen. Fortunately, new music on offer from both VoiVod and Darkane keep the metal flowing properly. You can hear tracks from each without us yapping over them at the end.
