Helio Castroneves took pole for the second consecutive race and extended a Team Penske (Chevy) streak of seven straight pole awards, a run that spans the last two Verizon IndyCar Series seasons.
Castroneves (#3) recorded a quick lap of 1 min, 7.1925 sec on the 2.3 -mile, 17-turn Barber Motorsports Park road course. The pole was Castroneves' 43rd, placing him fourth all-time in Indy car history, behind Bobby Unser (49).

PAUL BLART: MALL COP 2 - On Friday I predicted I'd see this movie over the weekend. I was right. Fist things first, I enjoyed the first Paul Blart movie. It was a fun sendup of Die Hard with Kevin James at his most haplessly likable. All those good things went out the window for the sequel. We got a turgid 90 minute romp through Vegas. All the spark and humor of the original was gone.

Scott Dixon (#9 Chip Ganassi Racing-Chevy), who entered the weekend with just one Top 5 finish in eight Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach starts, won this year’s edition by 2.2221 sec over pole-sitter Helio Castroneves (#3 Team Penske-Chevy).Dixon's victory was his 36th overall, breaking a tie with Bobby Unser for fifth on the all-time Indy car list. Al Unser is fourth with 39 victories.

Ferrari managed to close the qualifying gap on Mercedes, Sebastian Vettel starting on the outside of Row 1 next to Lewis Hamilton, who claimed his fourth-straight pole to start the 2015 season. Row 2 was another Mercedes-Ferrari (Nico Rosberg-Kimi Raikkonen) split, with Williams locking down Row 3 (Valtteri Bottas, Felipe Massa). Tudor United SportsCar Championship competition at Long Beach was limited to prototype and GT Le Mans classes. Ricky Taylor (#10 Wayne Taylor Racing Corvette DP) captured pole with a time of 1 min 14.790 sec. Scott Pruett (#01 Chip Ganassi Racing Ford-Riley) secured second with a best lap of 1:15.048. Christian Fittipaldi (#5 Action Express Racing) lined up third (1:15.274).
