Both practice and qualifying saw on-and-off rain, with some of the heaviest reserved for Saturday’s qualifying sessions. Romain Grosjean (Lotus) failed to make it out of Q3, but kept his car in one piece. Felipe Massa (Ferrari), however, had his third hard crash in the past two events, his back end breaking loose during Q2 and sending him into a wall.

James Sofronas (Global Motorsports Group Audi R8) was on the pole, with Randy Pobst (K-PAX Racing Volvo S60 R) on the outside of the front row. Andy Lee (Best IT Racing Camaro) took the GTS pole with Jack Baldwin (GTSport Racing with Goldcrest Motorsports Porsche Cayman S) starting P2.

Jordan Taylor (Wayne Taylor Racing Corvette DP) won his first Rolex Series DP pole at Belle Isle and combined with co-driver Max Angelelli to win the race as well. Joao Barbosa and Christian Fittipaldi (Action Express Racing Corvette DP) finished second, with the Starworks Ford/Riley driven by Ryan Dalziel and Alex Popow taking the final step on the podium.
