Warrel Dane - Praises To The War Machine

As some of you may know, Mr. Dane is the enigmatic front-man of Power-metal masters Nevermore and used to front Sanctuary in the late 80’s and early 90’s. Warrel enlisted the musical proficiency of Peter Wichers (guitars/basses) and Dirk Verbeuren (drums); both of Soilwork fame to assist him with his solo effort. Matt Wicklund (ex-Himsa) also lends guitar duties. The Gothenburg element is quite evident due to the assistance of Wichers and Verbeuren. For all the “Prog-Metal&rdqu...

Susperia - "Unlimited"

So I just had to write a review on one of my favorite albums of all time...“Unlimited” by Norway’s SUSPERIA.  The band was formed in 1998 by Tjodalv, the original drummer for Dimmu Borgir. Tjodalv and his guitar playing buddy Cyrus would bring SUSPERIA to fruition. What we have here is a brilliant mixture of varied Metal textures. There’s hints of Black, Death, Thrash, and even some good ‘ol Classic Metal. Memnoch provides some amazing six string bass wizardry ...

Hesher Isn't Perfect, But I Kind Of Feel Like That's The Point

Sometimes you hear the short pitch for a movie and you're sold right away. For example, "Simon Pegg and Nick Frost find out aliens are real," or "Jeff Bridges in a Coen Brothers movie."  Well here's the elevator pitch for Hesher: "Joseph Gordon-Leavitt is a burnout metalhead who inserts himself into a bullied teen's life."

Bridesmaids Doesn't Have To Be The Hangover, It's Already Funny

During my foray into the Great White Weird of Austin back in March for the interactive half of South by Southwest, I had an opportunity to catch a midnight preview of Bridesmaids. By "opportunity" I meant I stood outside of the theater for about an hour until they let me pay $10 to get in, so yeah, I'm a pretty big deal.  I watched Paul Feig get out of a CAR, you guys.

My Time in New Canaan, CT

High School – 10th grade In the Fall of 1986 my family and I moved to New Canaan, CT after a 5 year stint overseas in Saudi Arabia. I was 15 years old. New Canaan is the epitome of a small New England town. Small but uber-wealthy. David Letterman lived there at the time (maybe he still does) and he would even mention the town in his monologues and jokes sometimes. There was a town ordinance that prohibited any fast food franchises to setup shop there…an effort to keep out the &ldqu...

F1: Countdown to Austin 2012

Photo: Red Bull Racing Formula One racing, the highest form of motorsport, is returning to the US in 2012 at a purpose-built circuit currently under construction outside of Austin, Tex. I'm a fan of motorsports in general, but am particularly drawn to F1 (with the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series coming in a respectable second). As a kid my favorites were Nicki Lauda and Jody Scheckter. My current faves include Jenson Button and reigning champ Sebastian Vettel. That's right folks. Th...
