Jamie Whincup (Red Bull Racing Australia) took the pole once again, driving his Holden to a best lap of 1:31.9948. Whincup took the spot on his final trip around the track, and did the bulk of his work in Sector 3, having not put up the best time in either of the prior two sectors. Fabian Coulthard (Lockwood Racing, Holden) will start Race 16 next to Whincup on the front row.
Whincup’s teammate Craig Lowndes had to pit before the end of the session, leaving him at P12 on the grid with a time of 1:32.7248. With one of the weekend’s Top 3 performers set aside, the door opened for Holden Racing Team’s Garth Tander to equal his practice performance and take P3 at 1:32.2193.
Jason Bright (Team BOC, Holden) will start next to Tander on Row 2, having posted a time of 1:32.3410. Third-row qualifiers were Rick Kelly (Jack Daniel’s Racing, Nissan) and David Wall (Wilson Security Racing, Holden), with times of 1:32.4295 and 1:32.4347 respectively.
