Big industry and big government were not meant to be aligned. At least not in our, the people’s, interests. That many people have somehow confused freedom for America’s companies with freedom for themselves is testament only to the fact that the folks on Madison Ave. might actually know what they’re doing.
Here’s the food chain. Big company hires big agency to help them improve their public image. Big agency says, ‘Hey, you guys should make it look like you care about jobs, nature, family…you know, all that stuff people care about.’ Big company says ‘Wow. Why didn’t we think of that.’
As part of the campaign the big companies get together and form alliances and give them friendly sounding names like ‘The American Freedom Institute.’ Or ‘ProtectTheFamily.org.’ Or ‘Amercans for American Jobs.’ Or ‘Sustainable Development Alliance.’ Or ‘Consumer Energy Alliance.’ They then talk through these groups to tell you all the ways you’re getting ripped off and how your life would only be better if the government did this, that, or the other thing, instead of what they’re doing right now.
But at the same time, the companies that support these organizations are paying those government officials. And if the elected ones don’t do what they want, they’ve got a big stick: ‘No more money for you!’ When the elected ones do comply, the money the big companies get goes right in their pockets. It doesn't go to you. Recent history has proven this.
We might not be trapped in pods (a la ‘The Matrix’), but we are the food source for this whole chain. We are the krill to the whales. Both big government and big business look at the feed pool and see us floundering and cackle with delight. So long as we are desperate we will continue to accept their nourishment. Rise up? You get smacked down. Participate and you get to ‘live.’ Most choose ‘life’ and participation, and so the wheels keep turning.
Give us just enough to keep us happy and (somewhat) employed. Then sell us shit we don’t need, take as much as you can back without cutting off the food source, and tell us how if we just let them have a little bit more, we’ll all be better still.
Religious state. China. The USA. Ain’t a goddamn bit of difference between any of them.
