There's nothing like a little pick me up when the work week's getting you down.
This was mine.
Say hello to Mictlan, the Aztec God of the Dead. I've been a big fan of Jesse Hernandez' style for a while now. The themes, the bright colors, the energy he brings to his work really grabs my attention.
Up until a short while ago, you'd see Jesse's work on platform toys like Dunnys or the BIC Buddys or customs. He released his first piece a little over a year ago, the massive Ozomahti
figure. It is one bad ass chunk of plastic.
Mictlan first caught my last year, and I managed to talk my wife into getting it for Christmas because nothing says Happy Birthday to Jesus like a tiny Aztec death totem. The OG colorway remains my favorite and I've managed to stay away from the alternate colorways (five have been released so far) for fear of breaking my bank account. Unfortunately, there's a twisted moral imperative in owning the 'Peyote' edition of the God of the Dead, so I stayed up late the night the toy was released through Dragatomi and waited for it to be posted for sale on their site. Not only did I score one, but I got one signed! Totally geek I know, but isn't that the point?
Check out the pics. The amount of detail is crazy. Mic is articulated at the neck, shoulders and forearms so you can pose him a little bit. I like him looking over the shoulder, staff half- raised as if he's about to smite you.
