Review - DC Comics Trade Paperbacks From Not So Long Ago
Look, I'm behind on my reviews for these.

I apologize to DC and to you, my readers.

Things have been a bit hectic on the personal side and I let these get away from me.

If you're a fan of these titles, you've probably already read them, but if you haven't, here are my thoughts on some recents collections from Rebirth.

ALL-STAR BATMAN:  THE FIRST ALLY - Of all the Batman characters, and these days they are legion, possibly the most important and overlooked is Alfred.  The man who raised Bruce Wayne and facilitated his quest is far more than a loyal butler, but that story doesn't get told very often.  This collection fixes that...in a big way.  Concentrating on Alfred's background as an elite British spy, The First Ally brings the decisions Alfred made decades ago into the current Bat mythos.  It's a fascinating look at family, loyalty and the consequences of both.  Scott Snyder does it again.

BATMAN:  DETECTIVE COMICS:  A LONELY PLACE OF LIVING - Remember a few minutes ago when I mentioned the ever growing Bat-Family?  Let's talk about that some more.  Detective Comics has become the home for the vast majority of those characters who work as a team to back up Batman and right their own wrongs.  When it works, it works nicely.  When it doesn't, well, you get this volume.  Tim Drake returns, but there's a twist.  It's the Tim Drake that has been missing since the early days of Rebirth and a dark twisted version of the Red Robin who is out to stop his future from ever happening.  Yup, it's the Tim-inator.

THE FLASH:  NEGATIVE - Barry Allen's powers have been corrupted by the Negative Speed Force.  This sounds like something they would have come up with on the CW show.  Watching Barry's life, in and out of costume, spiral out of control has gotten tedious.  The Flash is supposed to be a lighter take on superheroing.  I'm honestly not a big fan of this take on the character.  Let's get the powers back under control and fight some Rogues.

NIGHTWING:  RAPTOR'S  REVENGE
- It's about time Dick Grayson had a nemesis of his own.  That nemesis is Raptor.  A former carnival friend turned powerful enemy, Raptor is back to make Nightwing's life a living hell.  His plan threatens all of Bludhaven and Nightwing can't stop him on his own.  I really enjoyed this collection, but then again, I really love the character of Nightwing.  Give this one a look if you haven't already.  It's a really good read.
