Review - Ready Player One
I came late...way late to the Ready Player One party.

I didn't read Ernest Cline's landmark novel until earlier this year.  In fact, I didn't read it until after the movie adaptation came out.

Late.  Late.  Late.

Now that I've read it, I can't believe I missed it.  Once I finished the book I passed it off to one of the Wonder Twins to read.  He was instantly all in too.

So, we were super excited to check out the movie adaptation of the movie.

Ready Player One stars Tye Sheridan, Olivia Cooke and Ben Mendelsohn. The ensemble cast also includes Lena Waithe, T.J. Miller, Philip Zhao, Win Morisaki, Hannah John-Kamen, Simon Pegg and Mark Rylance.

Directed by Steven Speilberg, Ready Player One is a spectacular adaptation.  It captures the spirit of Cline's novel and turns it into something uniquely Spielbergian.

The challenge of adapting Ready Player One was always going to be in the rendering of The Oasis, the interactive universe at the heart of Cline's story.  Now that technology has caught up with the story, Spielberg is able to fully realize the Oasis.  The viewer is taken inside this brave new world and its, in a word, spectacular.

VR characters mix with characters from the worlds of pop culture in a breathtaking swirl of action and adventure.  The talented cast really bring the Ready Player One worlds to life.  The story builds to an action packed crescendo which, while different from the novel, delivers on its own story in a spectacular wary.

Fans of the novel shouldn't go in expecting a note for note translation of the book.  The movie is its own creation and that's a good thing.  It gives fans of the work another take of the beloved work.

The home release of the movie includes some great extras, including:

Ready Player One 4K Ultra HD 3D Blu-ray and Blu-ray Combo Pack contains the following special features:

·         Game Changer: Cracking the Code

·         Effects for a Brave New World

·         Level Up: Sound for the Future

·         High Score: Endgame

·         Ernie & Tye's Excellent Adventure

·         The '80’s: You’re The Inspiration

Ready Player One Standard Definition DVD contains the following special features:

·         The '80’s: You’re The Inspiration

Ready Player One is a must see in the eyes of this old geek.  Give it a look.  You'll be glad you did!
