Welcome back kids.
You know, it's been a rough couple of weeks for wrestling fans. In just the past couple of weeks we've lost Nicolai Volkoff, Brian Christopher and, earlier today, "The Anvil" Jim Neidhardt.
In addition to being Stephe's facial hair spirit animal, Neidhardt was a member of the legendary Hart Foundation and the father of current WWE Superstar, Natalya.
And dude, had an epic laugh.
But it hasn't all been doom and gloom.
ROH and NJPW sold out MSG.
All In continues to announce exciting matches for their September show in Chicago.
My intake hasn't all been sport of kings. Here's some other stuff I've been digging into.
A QUIET PLACE - as my week off came to a close last night, we pulled the Wonder Twins into a darkened room and watched John Krasinski's directorial debut. It was a well crafted piece of horror/thriller. The first 45 minutes created a bleak world with little or no words spoken at all. There were some similarities to Signs, but its much, much better. A must see for fans of the genre.
DOC SAVAGE SKULL ISLAND - I've been fascinated by the idea of Doc Savage ever since I saw the trailers for the ill-fated 1975 Ron Ely feature. Hell, I even owned an old dog-eared copy of one of the books for a while. Never got around to reading it and it got lost in a move. So, a couple of weeks ago, when I stumbled on a book that paired Doc with King Kong, I decided to give it a read. I don't think the story was prototypical Savage as it focused on Doc's history with his father and grandfather. Kong makes an appearance in the third act and brings the story full circle. It was a fun ride.
BLACK HAMMER - Jeff Lemire's reimagining of all things superhero continues to roll. Having set the table in the first series and stretched it out further with Sherlock Frankenstein, Lemire has since put together three more series.
Doctor Star focuses on his take on Green Lantern and Star-Man.
The Quantum Age moves forward in time to riff on the Legion of Super-Heroes.
Age of Doom returns us to our original team and hits on the land of Dream. Yes, that Dream. This is world building at its finest. If you aren't reading Black Hammer, you really should.
