Welcome to Monday kids.
The weekend dynamics are changing around the old homestead, but I'm adjusting.
Don't believe me?
Here's a look at what I got into this weekend.
- the missus and I took in the latest offering in the Ocean's franchise over the weekend. You know what? It was a lot of fun. The cast was top notch. The caper was solid. The misdirection got me. Sandra Bullock is perfectly cast as Danny's sister. Cate Blanchett is awesome as her Rusty. The rest of the cast rounds out as a nice bunch of rogues. If you're a fan of the series, do yourself a favor and give this one a look. You'll be glad you did.
- I'm an Iron Fist fan. Have been for a long time. Well, with the possible exception of the Netflix series. So, I was curious to see what Marvel was doing with the Living Weapon in his new series. You know what? They've turned him into Kwai Chang Caine. He's a lost warrior trying to find his way home. That's a great take. The first two volumes of the new series find him fighting in a kung fu tournament, teaming up/fighting with Shang-Chi and teaming up with Sabretooth (an OG Iron Fist villain) to recapture the Book of the Iron Fist. These were fun, pulpy reads. It's exactly the kind of treatment the character deserves. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
- Today marks the third anniversary of the death of the American Dream. In both realistic and allegorical terms, that makes me very sad. It's hard to believe, even still, that we live in a world with out Dusty. He was the consummate wrestling babyface. I've really enjoyed watching his son, Cody, ascend to unprecedented heights in the past year, but Cody still hasn't cut a promo as good as this one. Then again, neither has anyone else.
