The starving artist. From a historical perspective, the term invokes thoughts of Schubert, Van Gogh, and Poe. But in the modern sense it makes one think of a person completely and utterly dedicated to their craft. Where the dedication comes first and foremost before monetary gain. I believe I know such a person. His name is Paul Valle and he is at the helm of an awesome band called King Chiefs.
Paul is a phenomenal song-writer, singer, and multi-instrumentalist. When it comes to gettin in the studio and layin down an album; Paul does it all...guitar, bass, drums, and vocals. He sings with such conviction and soul and every song oozes with intense passion whether it's a full throttle rocker or a slower moody ballad type number. He draws the listener in to truly feel the themes of loss and perseverance just by the tone and inflection of his voice. In his own words, Paul describes each record as a "time capsule" in which he pours his feelings and experiences of that moment in time. On top of his incredible talent, Paul is an all round good dude...humble, kind, genuine, and really hard working.
King Chiefs are a timeless heavy groove-rock band who's music transcends fads and trends. Paul writes music that gets you pumped and excited and touches your heart at the same time. Both 2015's "Tomorrow's Over" and this years "Blue Sonnet" are fantastic records that contain song after song of sonic brilliance and beauty. Should this article cross paths with any label heads out there such as Smallstone, Ripple, Argonauta, Lighttown Fidelity, Tee Pee, etc; I behoove you to sign this band...they are fuckin awesome.
