Happy President's Day!
Did I make good use of my long weekend? Why, yes I did.
- Like every other "what did you do this weekend" post, mine will start with the latest entry in the MCU. Yes, the movie was good. Was it as good as the pre-release hype? Nope. The movie started a bit slowly, but the stellar performances save it. Chadwick Boseman owns the role of T'Challa, but it was Michael B. Jordan's Killmonger who stole the show. As the final entry leading up to this spring's Infinity War
, Black Panther wasn't burdened with a lot of set up. That's another strength of the movie. MCU fans and Mavel fans will find a lot to like in this one.
- I dove back into the darkly magical world of John Constantine this weekend. I've read nearly the entire run of the original series at this point and I still can't believe I missed out on it the first time around. Constantine is a disaster of a human being and a powerhouse of anti-hero. Every time I come back to the series, I'm amazed at how much more misery and humor there is to wring out of him.
I also caught Matt Ryan's return to the role as the Arrowverse's version of Hellblazer on last week's episode of Legends of Tomorrow
. NBC's treatment of Constantine
continues to be an open wound. Ryan was born to play this role and I'm fine if he shows up now and again to help out the Legends.
Every Anxious Wave
- a time-travel, rock-n-roll love story. Yes, my wife knows me well. She gave me this amazing book for Christmas and, once I picked it up, I couldn't put it down. The characters are wonderfully drawn. The story is engaging. The pop culture is on full bore. It's like Kurt Vonnegut and Nick Hornby got together to see what would happen. Magic. Magic is what happened. Find this book! Read this book! HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION!!!
