Whatever force picks out our hobbies for us - be it socialization, memories of comfort, coincidence, skill, love - everyone has their own passion. That's what makes humanity so varied and eclectic and magical and interesting.
Adam Ruben - Pinball Wizards: Jackpots, Drains and the Cult of the Silver Ball
Welcome to 2018 kids.
As we head into the new year, I think its a good time to reset things here at the 'Geek.
We started this site as a gathering place for a group of friends to express their ideas. Our thesis was "everyone is a geek about something."
Mr. Ruben may have said it more eloquently, but the ideas is the same.
Incidentally, if you haven't checked out his book, Pinball Wizards
, do so. It's an excellent dive into one man's geekery.
The cast has evolved and devolved some over the ensuing years, but we're still here doing what we do.
I want to get back to the longer form writing I envisioned when we set out. That and the short random blasts. That is my GonzoGeek New Year's Resolution.
However, that doesn't mean we'll be giving up our stalwarts, like this.
I also promise to keep the cheesecake flowing.
Let's dive right into the new year with a new face. Please say hello to Bar Paly.
Why Bar Paly?
Did you see the picture up top?
Ms. Paly recently appeared on an episode of Legends of Tomorrow
as Helen of Troy. Nice job casting department. She positively jumped off the screen.
Prior to that she'd been seen in NCIS: Los Angeles, Million Dollar Arm
, and Pain & Gain
In addition, she's a world famous super model.
When I told the Wonder Twins who I had selected for this week's cheesecake, they asked why.
I mentioned all of the above and included the fact that she was an Israeli super model.
One of the boys commented that he guessed that made Theymyscria an island of Israeli super models.
I'm raising them right.
