Welcome to Stranger Things
That's right, Netflix's hit 80s throwback horror series returns today for its second season.
We're sure to see Eleven, the boys and the Upside Down.
Beyond that? Who knows?
We can only hope it retains its retro charm as it moves forward and deals with the horrors of adolescence, Eggos and Matthew Modine.
It will also be interesting to see how Stranger Things
, ostensibly an IT
homage, plays now that Pennywise has made his big screen return to the pop culture consciousness.
And if we're returning to Hawkins, that means we'll be seeing Joyce Byers, the most frantic mom in the Hoosier state.
So, since we're doing homages today, let's say hello to Winona Ryder...again
Note to all the actresses in Hollywood working the "manic pixie dreamgirl" angle, you're no Winona.
Everything you're doing, she did it first and she did it better.
I'm not suggesting that Ms. Ryder was the first manic pixie dreamgirl in Hollywood. I am, however, stating that she did it best.
right on through to Heathers
and Reality Bites
, she guided Generation X through our awkward years of youth. Now, in Stranger Things
, she's a reflection of our parenthood.
So you can have Zoe Deschanel. She's never going to be the muse of Johnny Depp, Christian Slater, Ethan Hawke AND Dave Pirner.
No, that spot belongs solely to Winona...forever.
