Another weekend in the books. What did I make of it? Glad I asked.
THE BIG SICK
- I missed this one in the theater this summer. The wife and I dialed it up on PPV this weekend. What a quality film. A barely fictionalized account of comedian Kamail Nanjiani's relationship with is wife and her life threatening illness, The Big Sick
scores on all fronts. The story of a man conflicted by the demands of his culture and his heart's desires, The Big Sick
is a must see.
- I won this Tom Petty release from a local radio station years ago. I don't know that I've ever listened to it all the way through. After seeing it mentioned several times in the wake of Petty's untimely death, I dug it out. Shame on me. This is high end later career Petty. If you haven't listened to it, do so immediately.
MASTER OF NONE
- Specifically, Season Two, Episode 6, New York, I Love You
. This episode, more than almost any other to date, shows exactly what Aziz Ansari is trying to achieve with this series. It's a strong, challenging episode that barely features any of the main cast.
