Welcome to Eclipse Day.
Don't look directly at the sun. Like excessive masturbation, it will make you go blind.
Instead, enjoy this video and a recap of what I've been up to since last we spoke.
- As I'm writing this, I'm on episode seven of the new Netflix MCU show. It has benefited from tighter pacing. It has suffered from middling characterization. Like all of the MCU offerings that went before, its a mixed bag of cool moments and tedium. The good news is that , for a long time Marvel fan, the cool moments outweigh. I'll give it a recommendation, but temper that with your own preferences.
- While we were in NYC for a family vacation last week, we took in the Broadway version of the classic Bill Murray movie. I'm not a big Broadway guy and I find it problematic that most Broadway plays these days seem to be based on movies. All that being said, Groundhog Day
was amazing. Andy Karl is the perfect successor to Bill Murray in the role of Phil Connors. He brings a world weary sneer to character that is needed. The songs "Playing Nancy" and "Night Will Come" are showstoppers that resonate long after the play is over. The production is wrapping up its Broadway run soon and will take the show on the road. Go see if! Highly recommended.
- Saturday morning I changed my Facebook profile pick to Eclipso. Why? It amused me. Eclipso has long been one of my favorite DC villains. I think it has a lot to do with THIS ISSUE
of Metal Men
from the 70s. That's a lot of weird on one cover. Since then the villain has undergone a lot of changes. He was revealed to be God's instrument of vengeance. He may have been created on Apokolips. He took over a country and, at a different time, most of the Justice League. He was even hinted at as the big bad on Constantine
. In short, he's a villain who would be perfect for exploration in the DCEU!
