F1: Austria – Bottas wins, pole to checkers; Vettel second, Ricciardo third

Valtteri Bottas (Mercedes) earned his second career pole. Championship-leader Sebastian Vettel (Ferrari) started second, followed by teammate Kimi Raikkonen. The two Red Bulls were next, Daniel Ricciardo ahead of Max Verstappen, with Romain Grosjean (Haas) slotting in at P6. Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) lined up P8 after a five grid-spot penalty for changing his gearbox.

Ricciardo moved up to third and Grosjean fourth through the first series of corners, Verstappen after a terrible start and Turn 1 spin after contact. Raikkonen and Hamilton had both passed Grosjean by Lap 10 (of 71). Ricciardo pitted during Lap 34, returning to competition in P4. Vettel pitted the next lap, Bottas during Lap 42, and Raikkonen one lap later. Bottas led Vettel and Ricciardo once the cycle was completed.
