Toyota Gazoo Racing TS050 Hybrids finished 1-2 at the 6 Hours of Spa, Sebastien Buemi (#8) outrunning Kamui Kobayashi (#7) to the checkered flag by just 1.992 sec. The #2 Porsche 919 Hybrid (Brendon Hartley, Earl Bamber, Timo Bernhard) finished third. The 1-2 finish was Toyota’s first in WEC competition since the 6 Hours of Shanghai in 2014. The #8 (Buemi, Kazuki Nakajima, Anthony Davidson) also won the season opener at Silverstone.
Alex Lynn, Roman Rusinov, and Pierre Thiriet won LMP2 for G-Drive Racing, finishing ahead of the #31 Vaillante Rebellion entry (Bruno Senna, Nicolas Prost, Julien Canal). The win was a career first for Lynn and Thiriet. Oliver Jarvis, Ho-Pin Tung, and Thomas Laurent finished third in the #38 Jackie Chan DC Racing entry after having won on debut at Silverstone.
AF Corse Ferrari 488s finished 1-2 in GTE Pro competition, Sam Bird and Davide Rigon (#71) topping Alessandro Per Guidi and James Calado (#51). The teammates fought fiercely for much of the race. The #66 Ford Chip Ganassi Racing GT (Olivier Pla, Stefan Mucke, Billy Johnson) finished third.
Pedro Lamy, Paul Dalla Lana, and Matthias Lauda (#98 Aston Martin Racing Vantage) racked up their third straight GTE Am Spa victory, taking the lead in the season standings along the way.
