Another week and another chance to take a look at what I've been doing with my (limited) pop culture time. No need for any more preface, let's dive right in.
THE LEGO BATMAN MOVIE
- The Lego Movie
was a truly unexpected surprise. I went in with low expectations and came out gobsmacked. As a first foray into a Lego-Verse, it was going to be hard to beat. The Lego Batman Movie
may have done just that. With Will Arnett back as Batman via Job, the movie throws some heavy Batman mythos as the viewer, whether they want it or not. That's not to say the movie is maudlin or morose as Batman can so often be. No, it was fun. Arnett's Batman is one of the greatest screen iterations of the Dark Knight ever. The movie is a must see for fans of all ages.
- Beyonce channeled her inner Auntie Entity. Someone forgot to plug in James Hetfield's mic. Bruno Mars may be the pinnacle of human evolution. Morris Day and the M*FN Time. Oh, and Adele. That is all.
THIS IS US
- NBC's runaway smash hit has me hooked. It relied heavily on twists early on. Now its settled into some quality familial storytelling across two timelines. It has been a pleasant surprise in a television landscape littered with procedurals. You really should check it out if you haven't.
