So, according to the calendar its fall. The weather in Houston would disagree. Thanks to our continuing rains, the inaugural Open Air Festival was a bust. I'll let Chris, our man in the rock trenches, cover that if he wishes to.
In the meantime, here's what I got into over the weekend.
- I didn't intend to watch this. I lived through the Jobs era. I read the bio. I own the products. Still, I was sucked in. I missed the Woz/garage days portion of the movie. I got there just in time for Jobs' ouster and NeXT. I stayed until the end because Fassbender was amazing in the role. I only ever saw him as Fassbender when they put him in the 80s era mullet wig. Great movie. Worth a watch.
- Being a lifelong comic geek, I'm supposed to have read this Alan Moore story. I haven't, until now. I'm not going to go into the long history of problems with this title. I'll let this LINK
do that. The story is a riff on Shazam. It's a pretty good one too. Marvel collected a great deal of the story into the first TPB volume. I think the story the title is famous for is in the second. Guess I have to read that next. I enjoyed the story. It was pretty high end Moore. Still, I'm not sure it would be held in such high regard if it weren't for the aforementioned controversy. For completists.
- I'm all for a slow build, but Preacher is taking it to an extreme. I'm still churning through the AMC series and it's kinda turgid. I have a sneaking suspicion that the back half of the series may contain all of the profane behavior, language and violence fans of the series expect. It better. Otherwise, this slog is not going to be worthwhile.
