Welcome to Friday kids.
I'm climbing on my soapbox today. If you don't want to read, skip to the links.
I was born and raised in South Louisiana. I'm proud of that fact.
This week I had to watch in horror as a 1000 year flood devastated my home state.
10s of thousands of people were displaced as TRILLIONS
of gallons of water fell from the sky, inundating rivers until they couldn't be contained. Entire cities were submerged.
What's that? You didn't know it was that bad.
I know you didn't.
The media was too busy covering the Olympics, pre-season football and the election circus to adequately cover this disaster.
Our president didn't take a break from his vacation to address the issue.
Our presidential nominees didn't address it either.
I have my theories about why this was.
You see, there was no political traction to be had.
This wasn't a man made disaster. Nothing failed. Nobody was blaming their neighbor. In fact, whole communities gathered together to help one another.
NBC spent millions of dollars on the rights to cover the Olympics, so instead of bodies on the ground in Louisiana, we got Hoda Kotb, day drunk, accosting people in Rio with a cardboard cutout of Savannah Guthrie.
I'm wholly disappointed in the entire establishment. You've failed a state, a community, a people.
Shame on all of you.
Let me introduce this week's cheesecake to lighten the mood. Please say hello to Ana de Armas.
Ms. de Armas stars in War Dogs
which opens today.
This marks her first mainstream film that doesn't co-star Keanu Reeves.
In addition to War Dogs
, Ms. de Armas will be seen in the upcoming Blade Runner
sequel and the Roberto Duran biopic, Hands of Stone
We're calling this one a buy early.
Let's hit the links.
