We were unofficially calling this weekend "Family Fun Weekend" around my house. The reasons for this will become clear soon enough. Here's what we did.GUNS N ROSES
- Friday night was the beginning of the big weekend. We packed up the whole family and headed out to NRG Stadium for the GNR reunion show. This was a big moment for the family as it was the first stadium show for the Wonder Twins. Sure, there was some trepidation going in. What was GNR going to be like? Could they still go. In a word, yes! Despite a muddy early mix, the band brought the lumber. For nearly three hours, they played all the hits and a solid mix of album cuts and covers. Yes, they played some Chinese Democracy
songs, but nobody really cared. They wanted GNR. They got GNR. Axl can still call up the air raid siren when needed. Duff McKagan was slinky cool. And Slash! Slash owned the stage from the first note until the last. No, it wasn't 1987 GNR, but I didn't expect that. I got more than I expected from the band and a tremendous first concert experience for my boys.SUICIDE SQUAD
- The second leg of our big weekend was seeing the latest DC cinematic offering. This one was big for the boys as we took them to see the movie at the new iPic. Maybe it was the cold beer and tots, but I really enjoyed the movie. Sure, the plot was thin in spots, but it was a step in the right direction for the DCU. New characters and locations were introduced. Was it a great movie? Nope. Was it a fun movie? Yup. Would I watch it again? Again, yup. In fact, as I'm typing this, one of the Wonder Twins is seeing it again. The movie clearly resonated with the necessary demographic. Well done DC. Well done.BEAVIS and BUTTHEAD
- After we finished our Stranger Things
binge on Saturday night, we stumbled upon Beavis and Butthead
on the new MTV Classic. My wife excused herself and the boys and I watched. It was the debut of Cornholio and they were hooked. We watched some more yesterday and they asked when it would be on again. That was cool.
