Let's jump right into it, shall we kids?
- For whatever reason, I never read any of Matt Wagner's Grendel
earlier in my life. Despite the fact that stories of an assassin/mob boss sound right up my alley, I just never jumped in. That changed this weekend when I was cleaning up uestionalan old iPad and discovered an unread review copy of Grendel Omnibus Volume 1
hiding there. I dove in and have thoroughly enjoyed the stories I've read so far. A collection of short stories by various artists and writers helps to fill in some of the blanks in the life of Hunter Rose aka Grendel. As it turns out, Omnibuses 2 and 3 are also residing on that old device. There's going to be a lot more Grendel in my life going forward.
GAME OF THRONES
- Unhampered by a need to be true to source material, the creative team behind Game of Thrones
has Season 6 firing on all cylinders. We've had some great character interactions, some surprises and some deaths. All of that is par for the course for this series, but it all seems to be moving at a more satisfying pace this year. Well done folks.
BLUE JAYS v. RANGERS
- The biggest fight in sports this weekend didn't take place in the ring or an octagon. No, it took place on a baseball diamond in Arlington, Texas. Jose Bautista learned a lesson about showing up pitchers and hard slides into their fielders. Rougned Odor score one helluva punch in that brawl. I'm sure he'll get fined, maybe even suspended, but that was the best baseball punch I've seen since Nolan Ryan embarrassed Robin Ventura.
