So, I had an interesting weekend.
The wife and kids were out of town for a family birthday, so I had the house all to myself. Well, myself and the dogs.
I knocked out a few honey-dos and then knocked out some backed up recordings on the old DVR.
Yes, I enjoyed the Game of Thrones
season premiere last night along with a homemade version of the GonzoGeek favorite, California Burrito. It wasn't as good as the ones we get every year at Lolita's by the Park, but it was a good first effort.
So what did I do with my fake bachelorhood?
- BBC America ran the two episode 4th season of the Idris Elba crime series back in December. It's been sitting there taunting me ever since. So, Friday night I picked up a pizza and hunkered down. While I think the shortened season ultimately hurt the story, it was fun revisiting DCI Luther and his colleagues as they tried to capture a cannibal serial killer haunting London. Throw in a subplot about the death (!) of Alice Morgan and you've got a pretty fun way to spend a few hours.
- I'd wanted to rewatch this one ever since Roddy Piper died last year. It too has been taunting me from the DVR for months. I hadn't seen it since it was in theaters a thousand years ago. Stephe and I saw it together and called the infamous fight scene out loud to the delight of the crowd. Seriously. The movie was originally a screed on the evils of the 80s greed culture. Watching it in this new social media millennium, I was surprised by how well the movie's message holds up and even resonates. Piper's mullet...less so. Still, if you've never seen it, or want to watch it again, They Live
is still really good.
MARVEL'S AGENTS OF SHIELD
- My wife and kids have largely written this one off. One of my boys even went so far as to suggest we stop watching it. Still, there were six episodes recorded and I wanted to make sure they didn't impact the upcoming Civil War
. They don't. I've wanted to like this show from the beginning. They've not made it easy. For every step forward, they seem to take two back. It can be infuriating. In the episodes I watched this weekend, there were a couple of good ones, a fair one and some that I could have just skipped. I'm really not sure how much longer I can justify watching this show and that makes me sad.
