It's been a helluva week kids.
First, H-Town got inundated with rain on Sunday/Monday. So much rain in fact that we were measuring in feet - that's right FEET - instead of inches.
Thankfully, none of your Houston Geeks suffered any damage. Others were not so lucky.
Then, yesterday, we got the shocking news of Prince's death.
In a year when we've had famous musicians dropping like flies, that one hit me harder than I would have expected.
Maybe it was the complete shock of it.
Maybe it was the tolling of my long gone youth.
Maybe I was just exhausted.
In any event, his royal badness is gone, but he leaves behind a legacy of music that will survive us all.
Lost amidst the Prince outpouring was the death of bluesman Lonnie Mack. Mack was a huge influence on Stevie Ray Vaughn and helped the doors lay down
Roadhouse Blues (he played bass...you know...because they didn't have one).
I saw Mack play live in the club I used to work in 20+ years ago. Dude could shred on that V.
So, where does that leave us?
Well, as it turns out it leaves us perfectly primed for the return of
Game of Thrones.
The tale of familial honor, betrayal and dragons with a healthy side order of boobs returns to HBO this Sunday night for its 6th season. This will be the first season that doesn't have a George R.R. Martin book as a guide so your obnoxious "in the book" friend will have to see what's happening in real time just like you.
So, in an effort to placate the gods, old and new, I'm pleased to introduce this week's cheesecake.
Please say hello to Carice van Houten.
Ms. van Houten stars in
Game of Thrones as Melisandre, the Red Priestess. So far she's given birth to a shadow killer and burned a child at the stake. She's rumored to be involved in the ultimate fate of Jon Snow, but who the hell knows.
She has also appeared in
Race, The Simpsons, Black Death and
Valkyrie among others.
Winter is coming kids. Prepare yourself.
Let's hit the links.
