Yes, it's Tuesday.
Yes, I'm late.
That doesn't mean I don't want to share.
Here's my pop culture weekend.
THE OSCARS - After a week of making picks on this very site, the big show was on Sunday night. My viewing got interrupted by a sick kid, but I saw some highlights. I was impressed with Chris Rock's monologue. He walked a flaming tightrope with grace. Stallone didn't win. Mad Max: Fury Road did...a lot. Leo won an Oscar so the pundits need to find a new reason for him to win now. And, if you were keeping track of our picks, we had a three way tie at the top. John, Hunter and Randy each got 2 of 5. I only picked one correctly. Woe is me.
HOUSE OF THE RISING SUN - James Lee Burke is one of my favorite authors. His Dave Robicheaux books take place in my old stomping grounds and I've enjoyed every single one of them. That being said, I'm not enjoyed his other characters as much. I've made two attempts to read his new Hackberry Holland book, House of the Rising Sun. I've stopped twice and I won't go back for a third pass. The book reads like Burke fanfic. I just can't do it.
NOVA - This series from Marvel has been a surprise. Picked up by my kids and read by their old man, the Sam Alexander version of Nova reads like a 21st century Spider-Man. I can't think of higher praise. You should check it out.
