Hey remember when I used to do this every Monday?
Seriously though, I haven't done much meandering around the landscape of pop culture for a few weeks, but this week I'm back.
Here's what I did.
DEADPOOL - I suppose I have Ryan Reynolds to thank for this one. He's the ONLY reason my wife agreed to see Deadpool on Valentine's weekend. She's still, rightfully, holding Valentine's Daredevil while pregnant '03 over my head. Thankfully, Deadpool went a long way toward making that right in the most violent and profane way possible. Anyone who still maintains that an R Rated superhero movie can't be a hit need only look at the weekend returns on Deadpool to see how wrong they are. The movie was full of Easter eggs, shoutouts and enough wisecracks to make us all forget how badly they botched the character in the first Wolverine movie. More Deadpool is sure to follow and that's a good thing.
ALL THE WAY - We took our tween sons to see this play about LBJ last night. It was a fascinating look at a period of history that often gets lost between the Kennedy assassination and Nixon's Watergate scandal. LBJ took on both parties in his efforts to pass Civil Rights legislation even though it looked like it would cost him his presidency. The Alley Theater's production was slick and well stage. Thoroughly enjoyable.
LUCHA UNDERGROUND - Yes...this again. Season two of the best wrestling program around began while I was out. I haven't seen last week's episode yet, but the if the first two weeks are any indication, this season is going to be balls to the wall. With Season 3 already announced now is a good time to get on board. You can thank me later.
