As we say goodbye to November and move full steam into the hectic holiday season, let's see what I managed to get into this weekend after frying a turkey and eating too much.
ASTRO CITY - Last week I stumbled upon a group picture of my cousins from a family reunion 10+ years ago. I was wearing an Astro City t-shirt. I hadn't read Astro City in a long time so I decided to see if it held up. The Houston Public Library provided me with 3 TPBS and the long holiday weekend provided me with the opportunity to read them all. Astro City remains a high water mark in comicdom. Kurt Busiek's encyclopedic knowledge of comic history gives his stories depth and familiarity that is hard to find in the current renumber/relaunch/reboot landscape.
DO ANDROIDS DREAM OF ELECTRIC SHEEP - I've spent a lot of this year filling in holes in the Geek CV. This was a big one. No, I'd never read the book that was the basis for Blade Runner. In truth, I've only seen Blade Runner once, decades ago now. The book, while home to similar characters with familiar names, is a completely different animal than Blade Runner. Oh, it's bleak, but it's a different kind of bleak. Glad I read it. Now I need to watch Blade Runner again. Well, some version of Blade Runner anyway.
CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS - This year I decided to forego my usual Scrooge role and dive into helping get the home ready for Christmas. My good natured resolve resulted in me stranded at the highest point on my roof in the dark with 8 strings of lights blowing out in the most Griswoldian way possible. The problem has been resolved, the lights wired and to all a good night. Fa la la la la...la...la...la...la!
