The World's Greatest Mercenary.
The Deadliest Assassin.
A Gun for Hire.
Responsible for Deadpool.
Wait...that last one wasn't in the book.
All of the descriptors were, in fact, on the very first page of this volume which collects issues 1-6 of DC's new Deathstroke ongoing series.
Deathstroke is a fascinating character. Originally an assassin hired to kill the then "New" Teen Titans, he proved so popular that he was eventually given the anti-hero treatment and now works both sides of the fence for DC.
This collection begins with Deathstroke finding himself on the wrong end of a double cross. A few panels of mystical healing later and 'Stroke finds youngified so that he bears an uncanny resemblance to Arrow's Deathstroke, Manu Bennett.
Once healed, Deathstroke is hard on the trail of the man behind his attack, Odysseus. The trail leads, as these things do, to Gotham and, of course, Batman and Harley Quinn. We also get appearances from Bronze Tiger, Lady Shiva and Ravager.
Still, despite all the guest appearances, this is Deathstroke's story. How does he handle his new, younger body and, in Deathstroke's case, two eyes.
Written and drawn by Tony S. Daniel, Gods of War is a fun collection delivering on the action and mayhem you expect from a Deathstroke story.
Deathstroke Volume 1 is in stores now.
