Happy 4/20 kids.
Let's see what I did this weekend.
PAUL BLART: MALL COP 2 - On Friday I predicted I'd see this movie over the weekend. I was right. Fist things first, I enjoyed the first Paul Blart movie. It was a fun sendup of Die Hard with Kevin James at his most haplessly likable. All those good things went out the window for the sequel. We got a turgid 90 minute romp through Vegas. All the spark and humor of the original was gone.
DAREDEVIL - I'm 9 episodes into Netflix's DD series and I'm still liking it. It could probably have been tightened up a little bit, but overall its a great opening salvo for the Marvel/Netflix experiment.
UNCANNY AVENGERS - I read three volumes of Marvel's Avengers/X-Men combo. It involved time travel and the destruction of the Earth by a Celestial. It was hit or miss. The concept of a "unity team" to bridge the gap between humans and mutants is solid and I liked a lot of the characterizations. It was the story that didn't do much for me. Then again, Kang and his many iterations has never been my favorite Avengers foe.
TRAILERS...TRAILERS...TRAILERS - The trailer for Batman vs. Superman leaked over the weekend. I'll be honest, it left me cold. More gritty from Warner Brothers. Lighten the fuck up already. And then there was the new Fantastic Four trailer. This one gave me some hope for Marvel's first family which is something I haven't been able to say since the first movie. I'm moving to cautiously optimistic about this reboot.
