Friday LinkFrogging - 1/16/15

Each year the phrase “all in” grows in magnitude. It has to. The only way to do more than you did the year before, even if you did all you could, is to…well, do more! Even if you made it all the way to the top last year, it’s going to take more to stay there this year, and more again next. If you’re not speeding up, you’re slowing down.

I’m approaching 2015 with this mind set. So far (16 days?), so good. It also helped guide my choices when Bruce asked me to cover for him on LinkFrogging. Most of what I do here at GonzoGeek centers on auto racing. My immersion will be deeper than ever before. I will bring it to (nearly) everything I do, including this.

One September day in 2013 I returned to my computer in the Circuit of the Americas press room to find I had two new neighbors on my row of tables. I said “hi” to the one right next to me. We chatted for a moment. Then both got back to work. But even in that moment’s chat I was smitten; a state which only grew as I saw her interact with other comers and goers. Beautiful, friendly, professional, sweet….what wasn’t to like?

When I returned again she and the lady sitting the other side of her were gone. The next I saw she was in uniform on the giant wall projection in the press room; FIA World Endurance Championship pit lane reporter Louise Beckett.

She became instantly my biggest media crush since ‘Attack of the Show’s Olivia Munn and Sara Underwood (both also subsequently featured by me on Cheesecake fill-in duty). But unlike either of these two, Ms. Beckett has assiduously avoided any lad-mag type imagery of her filtering onto the interwebs. [I still remember how heartbroken I was when I found out after the fact that Ms. Underwood was already a Playboy playmate, and I still haven’t looked at the pictures. Denial is best sometimes.]

There are no half measures in “all in.”

See you at the track; first, last, and always.

But in the meantime….Let's hit the links.
