Mark Webber made the jump from Red Bull Racing’s Formula 1 team to join Porsche’s new LMP1 effort in the waning stages of last year’s F1 season, returning to his sports car roots. In 12 years as an F1 driver he put up 9 wins, 42 podiums, 13 pole positions, and 17 fastest laps, closing out with a career-best third in the drivers’ championship standing last year. He’s now in the middle of the challenge of elevating Porsche’s prototype efforts to match those of perennial power Audi.

“It’s got a good mixture of everything really. It’s quite a demanding track, so you need car balance and a good engine as well. This year has an additional challenge in that the temperatures are quite high, which places added demands on the driver and the car as well.”
