Will Power (Team Penske, Chevy) topped Practice 1 at the Grand Prix of Houstno with a time of 1:00.4427. Simon Pagenaud (Schmidt Peterson Hamilton Motorsports, Honda) posted the second quickest lap at 1:00.6956, with Sebastien Bourdais (KVSH Racing, Chevy) third at 1:00.7700.
AJ Foyt Enterprise’s (Honda) Takuma Sato posted a time of 1:00.7901, Tony Kanaan (Target Chip Ganassi Racing, Chevy) 1:00.8355, and Helio Castroneves (Team Penske, Chevy) 1:00.8357.
Practice was briefly red-flagged due to track surface problems at Turn 9.
Mike Conway commented after practice that certain segment of the track had been smoothed out from last year but that it remained a typically bumpy street circuit. When asked about the chances of Ed Carpenter Racing (Chevy) sweeping the Texas events following Carpenter’s win at Texas Motor Speedway he smiled and said simply that it would be nice to add some boots to the hat Carpenter got in Dallas and complete the outfit.
